computer stuff

last weekend I took some time to just fart around with the Adobe stuff. My thinking was that I might learn some more about the progs if I used them with no particular goal in mind...which sort of worked. Just make comps/collages out of transparent .gifs and vector art and applying a bunch of filters to random blobs of color. The results turned out somewhat like illustrations I have seen for articles in magazines or something. It was fun, and I listened to a buttload of music while I was doing it. I used to do this kind of thing all the time except with a pencil and sketchbook or whatever. I don't claim to be good at it, but I sure enjoy it when I get in a nice groove regardless of the results.

i'm having some computer issues. the vga output on my primary lappy is causing severe horizontal ghosting when I hook it up to my big monitor. Other than that it is working fine. So, my main machine is working fine, I am just restricted to using the built in screen. Sucks.
My secondary machine, the $200 special desktop jammy that I grabbed a while ago, is working fine hooked up to the big monitor. The downside is, it is really showing why it only cost $200. I can't even look at a yooootooob vid without it stuttering and sputtering. It never starts right up, I always have to go through some rigmarole to get it running which involves the "F" buttons...seriously I have never had it do the same startup process twice!

So, I am -looking- at computers, but I am being patient about it. Of course the big question is "will MS VisualWebDesigner2008Express work with Win7, and if so which version will it work with?". This question will no doubt get answered only by way of me throwing shovelfuls of money at it. Even then it may not be the answer I want.

In other news, I'm starting to get the hang of Google Wave. I don't have any pressing need to be in a collaborative environment with people in a wave, but I do want to know what I am doing when the need arises. Me and a couple of others have a wave running in which we are just testing all the different things we can do with it. The most fun thing so far has been being able to embed soundcloud files and youtube vids right in a wave. I tried to initiate a vidchat in the wave but nobody on the planet ever talks on a webcam except me. Maybe eventually someone will test that functionality with me, but it may not even work because google does not like my soooper dooper logitech webcam. Google likes built in webcams the best I think. whatever.

In about two years I am going to pack all the computers up into storage and just start biking towards the west.
