Made the drive to Baltimore in a decent amount of time. I actually left a few hours earlier than I thought I was going to. slept for about half an hour at a rest stop in the no-mans-land between Durham and Richmond. Suprisingly, I did not get caught too badly in DC rush hour traffic.
Great to see mom and Cliff! They have been re-doing their house so it looks a lot different than last year. I took a short nap after arrival, then me and mom headed out to my favorite pizza/italian place...a ritual I look forward to all year long. While we were at lunch, Cliff went out and got a new bike for my mom, so once we got back we went outside to check it out and make some adjustments. After that I dove into hooking up their wireless router. It was probably the smoothest router install ever. Got the thing running just before my internet withdrawal kicked in.
Cliff and Mom are at the point in life where pretty much revolves around eating, so around 6ish it was time for another round of food. Following that me and my mom actually went on a bike ride. To me it was pretty freakin awesome since just a few years ago she couldn't even get around without wheeling the oxygen tank with her. She has really done well with getting past all her treatments for lung cancer. Downside: she is still smoking...can you believe that? Cigarettes must be the most awesome thing on earth or something. Anyway, we went on a ride and I taught her how to use the gears on her bike. She was pretty stoked to find out how far we went...1.44miles, which is awesome considering she gets seriously winded just coming up and down the steps. I think she is going to stick with the biking, she seeed to really enjoy it.
After biking we just sat on the back deck and watched a proper northeast sunset. Sunsets in Georgia freakin suck...I think we are just too low on the globe to get good colors or somnething. I know she digs the chillout evening time on the deck so I hung out outside with her for a long time. There were soe bats flying around which was pretty weird.
Had bad sleep.
Woke up and immediately got to work on putting up the vinyl lettering my mom wanted me to install around her kitchen. Ugh...I never liked installing vinyl lettering when I had had to do it as a job, and I didn't like it now. Pulled it off though, and mom loves how it turned out so I'm pretty happy.
Next phase: mandatory steamed crabs...its on.
mom,
