I'll be glad when Mad Men starts up again.
This past trip to the library I checked out "1001 Paintings to See Before You Die". There was some interesting stuff in there. Towards the end there were a zillion typical blowhard descriptions by people trying to attach huge representational meanings to abstract works that actually mean nothing. This of course, is just my uninformed, non-art educated opinion. I guess you have to go to school for a long time to really decode the psychology of what looks to me to be random smearing of paint that ended in a state pleasing to the eye. Don't get me wrong, I love the abstract stuff...the weirder the better...and I love the real minimal ones too...I just hate when folks feel like they need to justify them with overly analytical deep descriptions about how the work is emotional or reactionary in nature. Maybe, just maybe the artist didn't -mean- anything when they did the work...maybe they just wanted to do something that looked cool. Maybe they just started fucking around and knew the exact moment when to STOP. I dunno, you tell me.
I also checked out a big Dilbert book, which is awesome.
this upcoming week i might try to formulate some kind of plan
to meet some folks that live in my part of town to hang out with.
there has to be someone else up here who is bored and just
doesn't want to be bored by themselves.
or maybe i'll go bowling.
