Further

Waaay back in 1992, me and my cohorts in Baltimore wanted needed to get the word out about the rave scene. This was before cheap desktop publishing, so the only way we could get it done was the old cut-n-paste. We formed a little -organization- called Atomic Vibe, and set about being low budget enlightenment engines by way of a xeroxed 'zine called Further. The first "issue" wasn't even a proper zine, it was two pages stapled together...we called it an "info sheet". Over time it actually took the form of your standard booklet 'zine dealie. Lovegrove sold enough adverising for us to give out the thing for free, and we put the issues together as a group, which didn't always go smoothly...but we got it done through thick and thin because we felt like it was important to maintain the info stream. You have to remember, this was 92, before -rave- turned into a product...it was still a strobe light, an illegal space, a bass bin and a feeling at this point.  There were a lot of tension filled nights at the Kinkos on Charles St, like 3am trying to get these things done, but you would never know that from the E'up up super positive tone of the content.  We only did 6 issues.

Today I recieved a message that someone had taken the time to scan every issue of Further and post them to the Buzzlife DC dance music forum.

I slag on djing a lot, because I'm not in the game any more, but there is no way to deny that dance music played a huge part in my life, and for someone to take the time to recognize what me and my pals did 15-16 years later makes me feel  pretty good. Makes me feel like what we did actually mattered after all.
