Olympic shammery
Well, the reports are finally starting to surface about how China is getting the sham on the Olympics the same way Atlanta did. The crowds just aren't there. An AJC report today had a picture of Venus Williams playing a match in a practically empty tennis arena. Sponsors who spend big $ to have pavilions on the Olympic Green are seeing almost no foot traffic.
The IOC is a huge con game. How can they go around the world and convince cities that there will be a huge influx of people in a centralized area when it just doesn't make sense? Who will come to games? People who want to attend events...and thats all. No one is going to come to just -hang out- at the Olympic Green, the same way that no one cared about going down to Centennial Olympic Park when the games were here. Hell, everybody freakin LEFT Atlanta when the games happened!
Anyway, big ups USA womens gymnastics pulling in a medal in the team comp. Even though the press seems to jizz all over Shawn Johnson, I kind of like Nastia Luikin a little better. Shawn is good but she is so tightly packed and short that her routines come off as all power and no style. Nastia has strength but comes of graceful as well. I love how just before each event she has this dead serious game-face, and you can tell she is ultravisualizing the routine. I felt kind of bad for Alicia Sacramone, who gets a perfect score for holding back the tears after falling on beam and having a really bad floor routine. You could tell that she felt like the teams downfall was all on her, but it wasn't. Those 14 year old Chinese girls just freakin rinsed it, there is no way US could have won.
I have to big up the Chinese team for womens synchronized diving also. It is a beautiful event to watch, and those girls were practically robots they moved with so much sync. I always worry that someone is going to bust their face on the platform doing an inward...
