It sure seemed like it to me. I hadn't wanted to see the Star Trek reboots, so this is first actual film of his to present itself. I really liked LOST, though, until the time travel thing and the eons between episodes due to some strike, was it? :/
All in all, the characters engaged me and the visual taken away wasn't the space scenes or desert scenes, but a glimpse of invading TIEs as seen through a screen of trees. That felt truly Star Wars-y and evocative of alien worlds, alien tech, and earthly fears that engaged me in 1977 re the original screenings that I saw 24 times that first summer *blushes*
Han and Leia and Luke, yeah ... honestly I was hoping that they wouldn't be in the movie at all, although a mention would be called for. I'm ready for the new characters to take over. The observations comparing 18 points in common seemed spot on. I hope that one of them was the mention of Jinn's touching Kenobi's cheek while dying. That stood out.
However, I donned my Jedi robe, swung my lightsaber with my kids while walking into the EpVII screening last month *they made us leave the lightsabers at the front desk pooh* and it all didn't matter because it was a fun action movie, and since I see maybe 2 movies in theaters annually, it was a social event even more than a franchise viewing.
Any specs on the next installment?
