tutorials, anyone?

here are a few new ones....

first, a tut on how to give youtube caps a more natural color (or something like that...), requested here by undeniablynikki (the caps I used are hers^^)

to (1)
or (2)

to

1. crop your image 100x100

2. new layer, fill it with #FFE9E0, soft light 100%

3. duplicate your base, drag it on top of the other layers, set it to soft light 100%

4. duplicate that layer, set it to screen 54%

5. new adjustment layer > brightness/contrast, set contrast to +34

6. new layer, fill it with #FFF0EA, set it to multiply 92%

7. new layer, fill it with #A3D6FD, set it to color dodge 5%

8. now, if there are some pixelated areas, the blur tool is a nice thing to use there - just make a new layer, press ctrl + alt + shift + e (stamp of all visible), and then go over those areas with the blur tool set to a low opacity (I always use it at about 8-9%) - zoom in a bit if you must, and be careful not to blur any important lines, e.g the eyes or so XD

Okay, that's about it... I wasn't really content with this though, so I made another tutorial using the same image, but a few more adjustment layers...

to

1. crop your image 100x100

2. duplicate your base twice, set both to screen 100%

3. new layer, fill it with #FFE5DA, set it to multiply 100%

4. duplicate your base, drag it to the top, set it to soft light 100%

5. duplicate that layer, change the blend mode to screen 20%

6. new layer, press ctrl + alt + shift + e

7. new adjustment layer > hue/saturation
- first, set the saturation to +6
- in the dropdown menu, chose reds, set saturation to +8
- now the yellows, saturation to -6

8. new layer, fill with #A3D9FF, set it to color dodge 5%

9. new adjustment layer > brightness/contrast, set contrast to +10

10. duplicate the layer from step 6, drag it on top and set it to soft light 50%

11. new layer, fill it with #FFE9E0, set it to multiply 38%

12. new adjustment layer > color balance
- shadows: -7 | 0 | +13
- midtones: -11 | 0 | +6
- lights: +3 | 0 | -5

13. and again, for pixelated parts, use the blur tool ;)

other icons made with the exact same settings from the second tut, from caps of the same quality

And another tut, just because I felt like it...

to

1. crop your image 100x100

2. new layer, fill it with #FFFFFF (white^^), set it to soft light 56%

3. duplicate your base, drag it to the top, set it to soft light 100%

4. new adjustment layer > brightness/contrast, set contrast to +5

5. new adjustment layer > levels
- reds: 0 | 0.80 | 255
- greens: 0 | 0.80 | 255

6. new adjustment layer > color balance
- shadows: -7 | 0 | +4
- midtones: -3 | 0 | +10
- lights: -8 | 0 | -4

7. new layer, fill with #BBD9FF, set it to color dodge 3%

8. new layer, fill with #E4FFE9, set it to multiply 39%

9. new adjustment layer > selective coloring
Reds: C -81 | Y +19
Yellows: C -20 | M +10 | Y +17 | B +7
Neutrals: C +62 | Y -28 | B -13

10. new layer, fill with #BBD9FF, set it to color dodge 2%

11. new adjustment layer > brightness/contrast, set brightness to +4, contrast to +5

aaaand that's it :)

as usual, please let me know if/how you liked it, and when you try it out adjust the settings to your image and let me see what you get :)

also, feel free to friend this journal for updates^^
