Apparently, I haven't had time over the past week to so much as update my journal. What have I been doing?
Well, for one, I re-read Martin Davis' Engines of Logic, and my sentiment remains unchanged: a brilliant book which should be read by everyone involved with computers. I then started to read Penrose's The Emperor's New Mind, putting aside his other work for the time being. Yes, everyone should read those too.
In what spare time I had, I test-drove cars. Not too long ago, I realized that my birthday was coming up. I further realized that a new car would be a great way to celebrate. Whereas Sarah is not here this year (she's visiting Pakistan), and whereas someone has to give me a present for the sake of tradition, I feel that it is my duty to see that I receive a present. So, I figure I'll buy a new car.
I test drove a lot of cars, and loved almost every one. The greatest surprise was the new Mustang -- I am very definitely not a Ford person, but driving the Pony Car elicited a chuckle of pure pleasure, to my utter shock.
However, all good things must come to an end, and after driving a number of cars and culling the herd, I tabulated my impressions. The results are shown below. Each car is ranked from 1st (best) to 6th (worst). No duplicate ranks (ties) are allowed. The total is unweighted. The lowest number is, then, the best.
RSX-S Mustang 'vette MX5 RX-8 Boxster

There you have it, folks. The RSX-S, despite it's front-wheel drive configuration, is the best bang-for-the buck. I can't fault it. I'll start negotiating for it tomorrow, and should have one on or around the 29th. Whee.
Comments? Suggestions? Anyone want to come with me to pick it up, assuming I get the whole thing sorted out soon?
