and so, today

Let me tell you about today.

It started with the announcement that a company selling sewing machines in Australia had picked a male quilter as its famous user/spokesperson for the year. This started a chain reaction of "you realise that this is sexism, right?" which was countered by "but male is a perfectly good quilter and you are insulting him by suggesting otherwise" which was countered by "Sexism 101" which wasn't listened to...

And tonight, instagram (the usual mode of communication among quiltbloggers) is deadly quiet.

Then, it continued with my boss being down with the flu, meaning that all the things that were planned for getting done today were not actually done. Or even close to getting done. This is partly me, being too scared to approach the ppl on the other end of the interface (and not really knowing them doesn't help), and partly not having a clear idea of what's going on and where it's happening.

And then I had further hockey drama, after we announced the teams last night - with the warning that some people would move - and at least one player was Very Unhappy about the team she'd been graded into. Her placement there was largely due to her desire to avoid Former!Prez, which the selection panel took as an absolute, not a preference. Cue a series of emails about this player who was thinking of withdrawing entirely from the club because she was so angry about this.

So, yeah. Unexpected day of crises. Ohboy.

Frankly, I was expecting a resurgence of some Tumblr post I'd made months ago which someone had taken offence to (too feminist, critical of white dick fencing, not liking the things they like, saying their safe space wasn't inviolate just because they said it was) so there'd be drama there, too.

Or, you know, lose my job.

Thankfully, my fannish and work and personal lives have survived unscathed for the moment.

And now I just want to climb into bed under my layers of quilts, with my cats purring up beside me, and *WIBBLE*.

quilting, hockey, life
