A quickie update on the garden, because a lot has changed:
This was the garden at the start of December when
crazy4orcas inquired about my ideal garden:
And this is the garden from the same point one month later:
As you can see, the corn has taken off, the zucchinis and tomatoes are taking over the beds, and I've made several other composts in the ensuing weeks. Lots of growing things, including plenty of zucchini flowers that are DELICIOUS when stuffed and fried:
In the next month, there should be more zucchini, cucumbers, capsicum, and tomatoes.
This has been the easy phase, when everything is new and obvious and simple. (And I had lots of time in which to garden!) Now the trickier parts turn up - managing pests, and soil fertility, what to do about the pumpkin that wants to grow its way across my lawn, and when should I start cutting back the tomato (omg, it's gone crazy and is trying to take over the garden!). And how the hell do you tell when you pick the corn after the slugs have eaten the silks? (They were fertilised before, and I now have a slug trap in place now, but still...)
Going to need to do some thinking/planning in the next couple of days for the next phase of the garden - getting the fruit trees in position - particularly in the front yard.
