I got an interview!

One of the places I applied to awhile ago has asked me to interview, which is great! Unfortunately, it's in Whitehorse, which means I either need to find ~$1000 for flights (plus extra for a place to stay, I guess), or take 5 days off work to drive there. It's 24 hours of straight driving through pretty remote areas, so I'd also have to get the car ( Read more... )

I have no idea! He's been watching almost two a day, but even so, I doubt he'll get through them all. I think it's a collector-type thing, but I don't really know. He's so weird.

I don't even think I've ever seen 1000 movies.

Internet shut-offs are such a pain.

Oh dear. :/

Could you talk to them about the possibility of doing a phone interview, making it clear that you are very interested in the job but are concerned about travel/taking time off from your current job? That would show that you care about what they're doing but you feel responsible to where you're working now-something they may interpret as being positive.

I ended up asking them, and it sounds like they do phone interviews awesome, which is such a relief!

I have no clue why. I think he has more selection than the average small movie store, now.

I was curious about your Facebook status, so I came to find out why you needed to get to Whitehorse.

If this is the government job I told you about, the Yukon Government does interviews strictly on a points basis. You get points for answering questions correctly, and the person with the most points gets the job. Unless you're concerned that you won't be able to give good answers without seeing your interviewers in person, don't worry about being disadvantaged by doing a phone interview. They won't dock points for that reason alone, and I'm sure they'll totally understand if you can't afford to make the trek in person.

Drop me a note before you interview, and I'll give you some pointers about the process.

Awesome. That's good to hear, because I ended up deciding I really couldn't take the time off work, so we're doing it by video conference.

And I'd really appreciate any tips for the interview. I'll send you an email.
