-Vladimir Nabokov- everything he's ever written (ahem.) Starting with. . . King, Queen, Knave
-Gabriel Garcia Marquez- Memories of My Melancholy Whores
-Mo Hayder- Pig Island
-Steve Martin- The Pleasure of my Own Company
-(someone whose last name is between the Letters H and M, I can't find it online)- The Woody
-Boris Pasternak- Doctor Zhivago
-Ha Jin- Waiting
- that book by Marlon Brando??? I dunno, it starts off ok. . .
So I was really angry that the library didn't have Tokyo, by Mo Hayder, until I chanced to discover that OH WAIT IT WAS PUBLISHED AS DEVIL OF NANKING in the US. And then I'm angry because she's not a more popular author, because her writing beats the shit out of any other thrillers written by like Nora Roberts or something.
I HIGHLY recommend that everyone read Laughter in the Dark (though I do think Camera Obscura was a better title) by Vladimir Nabokov, it has probably the most satisfying ending I have EVER read.
EDIT: The Woody is by Peter Lescroft, and it begins with the line: "Call me, Ishmael." I think this book is going to be awesome.
