I've visited so many countries, lived in so many cities and all I've really discovered is that there is no place holding as many lonely, alienated, paranoid, narcissistic, frightened and trapped people as in the U.S. So why the hell are U.S. citizens so proud of their country? Why to they deny being its victem?
I just got back from Amsterdam. It was my third time there, but this time I realized something. No one drives. They all ride bikes. When was the last time you rode one (It's been almost two years for me)? There were a ton of tourists inhaling fast food, but no one getting shot and no one getting mugged. They were just a bunch of happy and curious people.
Immediately upon coming over to the States (I had come straight from Amsterdam to the U.S. to visit my dad and sister), I found myself standing in a line that's like a quarter mile long, for one metal detector machine and some people wearing security uniforms. When I finally got to leave, I was greeted with an armada of cherry-tops just doing a patrol around the airport. On the freeway, I passed three cops. In my parents town, I passed two more.
Am I suppose to feel safe or caged? The trip back to home wasn't as bad, thankfully.
This is my first announcement of my return and I'll bet my phone will be ringing off the hook when I hit the 'update' button. I didn't tell anyone I was going to flee, and I'm sorry.
I know there's going to be either a hundred questions or one question.
One will be much easier.
