That was my first startled impression when I first laid eyes on Vancouver as the plane decended through the clouds for landing. The cityscape had the same outline as we see from the opening credits of the BSG - there's no mistaking it. I was amazed! The image of it registered immediately as Caprica on my brain and I haven't thought of BSG in weeks. What was just as amazing was after we decended much lower and took a turn to approach the runway, another city outline jumped into my mind - Atlantis! Looking up at the city from over the water the outline was unmistakably Atlantis, minus the outlying piers. (I found out later from youngest son that you need to have a 'registration' pic for your CG work so in all likelyhood, Vancouver has been used by the respective FX departments for their city scapes.) Needless to say, I was speechless. It was an unexpected jumpstart to what would be one of the most fantastic weeks of my life.
Over the next few days I'll be posting about Vancouver, the con, meeting so many that I've met online and how this week really gave me a much needed prespective on my life as I'm living it now. Too deep for a con experience, you say? Maybe, but this trip was more than just about the con itself which was great, by the way. It turned out to be so much more than that for me personally. I wasn't expecting it but I'm glad it did. Hopefully I can transfer what I felt and am still feeling to paper as I also need to get it down and take a good look at it. One thing for sure - this journal and how I interact with it and through it will be different. More on that later as well.
Hugs and kisses to all of my con buddies on the flist. I loved meeting you all in person and spending time with you, rushed as it was.
Got to get back to the world of the real and get ready for work. Hugs to the rest of the flist as well.
