With all the gusto of a woman who's recently been told she needs to lose weight, I have decided to embark upon a detox diet. This is, basically, eating super healthy, and taking these nifty little dietary supplements made by Boot's [the British cosmetics company, which focuses mostly on organics].
Every day, I get to mix a vial of 'strawberry' flavored something in a liter of water, and take a supplement pill. The booklet that came with the detox pack advises me to eat "fruit- fresh or dried, vegetables- preferably raw or steamed, nuts, pulses, seeds, fish, brown rice, wholemeal bread, olive, walnut, sesame oil, garlic, herbal teas, fruit juice- preferably not made from concentrate, vegetable juice" and i'm not supposed to eat "dairy products (difficult to digest), processed or convenience foods, artifically sweetened food, tea, coffee, and alcohol (dehydrates your body), candy and chocolates." I'm also supposed to avoid smoking and smoky environments.
So, darlings, this is Day 1 of the Detox Diaries.
Breakfast: None. I got to work late, and added a vial of strawberry stuff to a liter of water, and took the supplement pill.
Lunch: The Raleigh Hotel Mesclun Salad, sans tasty bits. No feta cheese, no dried cherries, no almonds. Just mesclun greens and dressing [I should've asked what's in the dressing. But olive oil is good.] I also had some rye-sourdough bread [probably shouldn'tve had that] with no butter, despite the butter being oh so creamy and soft and spreadable.... I didn't finish the salad. Somehow, soggy, oil-soaked greens aren't too tempting today.
Snack: Dried cherries [with sugar...woe is me!!] and soynuts [which are nutritious, but sadly, not at all delicious]
Stay tuned for dinner, in which I try to make a complete meal out of raw vegetables.
