Small furry animals.

So when I move out of my dad's house for good (October, hopefully!), I won't be able to have kitties anymore, not as long as I'm living in crappy, LCC-adjacent apartments. I love my kitties, I have five here at my dad's, but they all love each other too much to separate them, plus, they love being able to go outside and come back inside whenever they please, and I wouldn't want to take that away from them. That's also why I don't want to adopt a new kitty and make it stay inside all the time, it would be so much happier going outside to play.

So, anyway, I'm thinking rabbits or ferrets (or both), and possibly mice, too. I've heard that rabbits suck and I've heard that ferrets smell, but I had Fred Astaire the rabbit and I loved him, and Lizzy's ferret Clover makes me feel like they're fun too. So I'm still seriously considering both of those. But what other small furry animals make great pets? I've had hamsters before, but I'm rather traumatized because my cats ate them, and I saw too much and I'm just not sure I want them again. I don't want anything that will die in like a year. And I still hate rats as pets, even though Rodger had some and tried to convince me they were cool, I don't agree.

What sort of pets have you had that were great? I'm open to reptiles, too, they don't really *have* to be furry. I'm NOT open to any arachnids.

Edit 7/27-
It looks like I'm probably moving out in September!
