returned from my jaunt up to maryland last night, and although there were a few hicups here and there with my flight home, i think it was all well worth it :]
friday night i arrived in salisbury around 11:45? i'm not sure what time it was, but i really didn't care...i was just stoked on being there...erin met me there and after hugging her for 15 minutes we decided to head back to her parents place....on the way there she played a CD she made for me...a little coldplay, willie nelson, sade and ben harper, just to name a few names ;D and a handful i have never even heard of...it was most tender and lovely :D she also informs me that disk 2 is already finished! so i can't wait to get my hands on that biz ;D hahahah.....we finally get to her parent's place and it's almost like i had imagined it ;] a little modern day log cabin, nestled back in bunch of trees and flowers everywhere :D we walked out to the main road, where across the street lay a large feild, freshly plowed, and the cool summer breeze blew the smell of green into our noses...it also wafted the scent of chicken shit, which isn't that appealing, but what can you do? there are a lot of chicken farms in maryland i guess :D hahaha...so chicken shit aside, it was quite gorgeous...the moon was just bright enough to make out the small farm on the other side of the field and the tree line that was to the left and right ;] the sky was clear, and although we looked quite diligently for our constellation, it couldn't be found :\ after standing around in the dark for a bit, and taking it all in, we decided to head inside and have some wine...we sat, i showed her my sketch book and we talked :D it was nice, but it was also late, so we decided to call it a night
the next morning i awoke to kisses and hugs :D and was asked if i would like to have coffee with her parents who were out on the side porch...needless to say i was very nervous about it all, but eventually she got me out of my room and i met the rents ;D and what two wonderful people they are ;D i don't know what i was so worried about...maybe it's just my M.O., to worry ;D so there we sat, drinking our coffee, enjoying the crisp morning air, cool summer breeze and the battling humming birds that frequent their little water feeder :D
after coffee, erin and i had a little breakfast and then headed out for our kayak journey (i had never been kayaking in my life and was REALLY looking forward to it) so we loaded up and drove down the road a bit to put them in the river...now, when i say river, don't get the idea of raging rapids, giant rock formations and treturous terrain ;D this is more like a "huck fin" river...barely any current, murky and small (in some places) :D so we launch and our journey began ;D now, i had SOME prior experience in paddling from my camping trip with lauren, craig, thien and grecks, but being all alone in a kayak was really something different ;D it was so much fun...i paddled and paddled and paddled and it felt like my arms were going to fall off in the first 5 minutes ;D LMAO! but i took breaks here and there and got myself rested up before i embarked further :D in about 10 minutes i already had developed blisters on my thumbs, which in turn popped due to more rowing ;D but the best part of it all was when erin and i were racing and i dug my paddle into the water to make a sharp turn around and totally tipped over ;D HAHAHAHAH...i remember saying to myself, as i was falling over, "i can't believe this is happening." and i believe the phrase "oh shit" came out of my mouth :D
now falling out of a kayak is not a problem at all, it's getting the water out and getting BACK IN that is tricky....especially when all you have to stand in is 3 feet of mud...seriously folks, this stuff was up to my knees caps....initially it was only up to my ankles, but trying to life a kayak full of water, over your head greatly increases your weight...which in turn causes many-a-problem in the areas of "balance" ;D to keep a long story short, for dave's sake *wink wink* i got the water out and managed to get back in and return home ;D we returned to a delicious lunch of roasted vegitable pita pockets, wine, water and tomato soup :D shortly after that we had to high tail it to erin's friend's wedding :D which we were a little late for ;D
everything went very smoothly at the wedding and before i knew it i was up infront of the alter, with the bride and groom and erin, getting pictures taken with them by the photographer...the thing that got me was they actually wanted me in the pictures ;D hahahaha...i felt so flattered ;] i wonder how they turned out? ;]
the reception was at the bride's parent's house, which was actually on the same river my kayaking expedition occured on ;D it was so beautiful...we munched on cheese, drank and drank some more and even managed to dance a little ;D i have some pictures that erin sent me today, but i need to get them fit for the web...i'll upload them in a future update ;D so shortly after the reception we headed back home and erin opened her birthday gifts..we snacked, talked and tried to re-hydrate :D and shortly after that, we all headed to bed
sunday morning i was awaken AGAIN with hugs and kisses ;D and i AGAIN enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with erin's mom, dad and sister ;D we managed to wash erin's car before eating lunch and after that i had to leave and catch my flight
my flight to philly from salisbury was late, which in turn made me late for my connecting flight to tampa...no big deal right? well, it wasn't really, i just had to chill out in the philly airport on my own for the next FOUR HOURS ;D LMAO! the next flight they could get me on was at 8:20 and that thing didn't leave philly until 9:30 something...which put me in tampa around 11:45 and into bed around 2am :[ i was a littel tired this morning to say the least....but when i got to work, i had two cups of coffee, in my special erin mug that she hand made just for me ;D and everything was fine ;]
so that was it...my trip in a nutshell ;D it was really great meeting her parents and can't wait till my next trip up there...hopefully next time i can stay longer ;D
my next trip is to san francisco in july...i'll be flying out there with erin and doing a little mini vay-kay out there for 4th of july weekend ;D we had planned on hitting up wine country, muir woods and some other sites in the berkley area where she will be working for the summer...so i guess until then, it's ttfn ;D
jwaid,
out!
