feeling better today. went to my brother's last night and played my 1st full game of phase10. I won, but it was a close thing. my niece, Chiharu, is sneaky. it was down to her and me on phase#10, while Keiko was on phase#8 and John was on phase#7.
today I mowed my backyard, and since I did the litterboxes yesterday (it's usually a Sunday chore for me), I decided that I was taking the rest of the day off. I've been crocheting off and on ever since while I watched sports (NBA playoffs and golf and baseball) and reality tv (The Amazing Race finale and Celebrity Apprentice finale).
as much as I love crocheting so many different things, I think I like making afghans the best. not that I don't love making other things, 'cause I do. but afghans can be so beautiful and complex, and unraveling the complicated patterns makes the math geek in me gleeful.
I started on a new afghan tonight. lately I've been having at least 2 afghans going at a time -- 1 that is all one piece that I work on at home, and 1 that is multiple pieces (that are sewn together later) that is easier to transport and work on the road. I have a granny square baby blanket that I'm working on when I go out. and I finished my last all-one-piece afghan a couple weeks ago, so now that Script Frenzy is finally over, I can start to work on the next all-one-piece one.
so I started on it, and there's this pattern of rows and swapping colors. I usually read through an entire pattern 1st, picturing the stitches in my head. then I work a few rows to see if it's working out correctly.
so after I had the 1st few rows (and 2 color changes) done, I sat down with pen and paper, and wrote down the pattern of color changes so I could mark them off as I went. and the math didn't work out. I got this pattern as a leaflet at Hobby Lobby, and one of the color changes was just wrong. so I went to ravelry to see if it was correct there, but it's not. I examined the picture, and it's right. the pattern is just written wrong. so I wrote down the correct color changes. then I figured out if I added 1 row of a particular color in a specific place, I can make the pattern symmetrical which is not how the pattern is written. so I guess I'm editing the pattern, but my inner math geek is happy.
I've done 34 rows today, and I have to admit I think it's just gorgeous already. I can't wait to see it when it's done. yay to yarn therapy!
