I'm a bit torn over my whereabouts next weekend. On one hand, there is the
Q-Pop store opening (free, and friends will be there) and the other hand (and also NOT free), there will be two different incredible world music artists coming in for a concert -
Yann Tiersen (composer of Amelie's soundtrack) as well as a double-whammy of two of my favorite artists from my college days, the pioneers of "Asian Massive" sound -
Karsh Kale AND MIDIval Punditz together in one concert at UCLA... holy crap.
Some of my favorite electronica is out of India/Pakistan, informed by goatrance sounds that also come out of Indian rhythms and traditional instruments fused with modern breakbeats. If you've ever picked up Cafe del Mar chillout compilation albums or anything similar, you'll hear artists from India all over it, notably Talvin Singh and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, etc.
Karsh Kale's album from 2006 "Broken English" - this is a track called "Beautiful." It's been quite a while since his last album! He is previewing his new upcoming album at the concert.

MIDIval Punditz has a lot of great tracks to their albums. Last year's "Hello Hello" has some great stuff:
My favorite track is in Hindi, "Sun Mere Sanam." I think I would fall clear over if there was a man who would sing to me in Vishal Vaid's clear, smooth voice (either that or
Alejandro Sanz's famous husky singing voice, <3)
Lyrics in Hindi as lifted from a Youtube commenter:
Sun mere sanam, sanam
Listen my beloved Ishq main hai sitam sitam
In love there is oppression Sun mere sanam, sanam
Listen my beloved Har dhadkein me hai nam tera, here dhadkan me hai nam tera
In every heartbeat is your name, in every heartbeat is your name Har sasoo tere sada ei hai
In every breath is your voice

Here's a pretty famous track called "Fabric" from their first album, self titled MIDIval Punditz, it's also a track off of the soundtrack to Monsoon Wedding directed by Mira Nair:

I'm kind of undecided and haven't bought the tickets yet... as long as you have money to burn, there are always places to go and people to see, but this is such a rare opportunity... I've always been kind of leery and scared of going to a concert alone, but I just might for this one since nearly everyone I know is probably going to go to Qpop instead. Looks like on Ticketmaster, there are hardly any seats left and nearly all in the back, but there are a few single seats left in the central front area!
