So, tomorrow is my last day of work. I feel less moved that I thought I would.
Still waiting for that damned interview, though. Bah! I was hoping to have this all settled so that I didn't have to go through the hassle of filing for unemployment yet again. Looks like no such luck. Double bah!
On a brighter now, we now have all five kittens (and mama, too) in the house. It only took 26 hours from baiting the trap for the first time until we were bringing in the last of the brood. I can't say they spent a peaceful night in the house, as there were multiple rounds of the Kitten Miew Chorus overnight. But, they were in and safe.
Mama is much less agitated, but she doesn't seem to quite know what to do with herself all day. At dawn and dusk, she gets restless and begs to go outside, feeling a compulsion to hunt for her babies. Her outdoor days are over, though, and she will just have to get used to the idea of a constant supply of kibble. She has mostly been asleep, today, pretty much since the time I left for work this morning. We will have to try to get a picture of her sleeping. She sleeps on her belly with her feet stretched out behind her, unlike any cat I've ever seen before. Odd little creature she is.
The kittens are still little spazzes, as kittens will be. But they do tolerate being handled and cuddled without too much panic. The calico (who has been given the temporary name of Fluff) even fell deeply asleep in my arms, last night, after I rubbed her tummy for a minute or two. She even purred at me after she woke up. Not too shabby for only having been in the house for 24 hours. I don't think we will have any real trouble getting them accustomed to being around people. Right now, boredom actually seems to be their biggest challenge. There are just too many places in this house that they can disappear and/or get themselves stuck in for us to grant them free run of the house. So, they get to hang out in the bathroom or come out to hang in the bedroom inside the cat carrier. Stencil and I are taking shifts with each, cuddling them and/or playing with them. But, what they really want to do is go exploring. Not gonna happen any time soon.
Coming soon, I will put up some pics of the kittens. I'm sure you're shocked at the idea.
