There is a lovely little calico kitty who has chosen our tool shed to birth and rear a litter of kittens.
She clearly is someone's cat. She has a flee collar on.
But, whoever this someone is, they clearly don't deserve to have a kitty as, 1)she has been allowed to wander outside (NOT good idea in metro Detroit, folks) and 2)she has been allowed to go unspayed and 3)they don't care enough about her to make sure she is safe at home with her kittens.
The tool shed is safe and dry, so they are all doing quite well. She doesn't want any human company, at the moment, but she doesn't run from Stencil and I when we are out in the yard. She just keeps a cautious distance. And she hisses at Stencil if he gets too close to the kittens. And we (by which I really mean Stencil) are feeding her and making sure she has plenty of water. And our yard (where the tool shed is) is fenced and locked so that no neighborhood dogs or other obnoxious wildlife can harass the brood. So, they are doing well, for the time being.
My major challenge is making sure that Stencil understands we do not need any more kitties, NO MATTER HOW CUTE THEY ARE.
Yeah, I'm not sure I believe it, either. But, at this point, mama kitty is making sure that we keep our distance. So we're safe for now.
