Death Guild

Last night we went to Death Guild, a goth club in San Francisco.  Martin hadn't ever been to a club before; I have, but not since the 1980s.  I have to say, the club scene hasn't changed much, other than to ban smoking inside, which is a GOOD thing!

It's a good club.  We got there during the first half-hour, so we could get seats (in this case, bar stools along the wall) and do some serious people watching.  I was really nervous before going: were my clothes right, was my makeup too weird, would I look stupid dancing...  All the things people worry about when they're in their teens and twenties.  Turns out I had NOTHING to worry about.  Some people did have awesome outfits, but several were in just plain black pants and shirts or skirts; I was right in the middle and didn't look out of place at all.  Too dark to even NEED makeup, let alone see it!  And most of the people on the dance floor danced exactly the same as people in the 80s clubs did, all sorts of styles, so that wasn't a problem, either.  Not only that, I recognized some of the songs, although not many.  One woman dancing next to us was totally awesome, and I had no trouble dancing in a similar style without actually imitating her.  Martin and I were both checking her out, and he said later he thought she was checking US out and that she had actually moved closer to us!  I felt silly for worrying so much about it, but then, we ALL do it at some point, so now I can relax.

We did meet up with a couple from the South Bay Goth Meetup group, Brian (the guy who came to the Rosicrucian tour I did) and his lady, who are celebrating their 8th anniversary today.  We didn't talk much, it was too noisy, but at least we DID meet up.  Both seem very nice, just wish we could have had a conversation!

Definitely someplace I want to go to more often, and Martin said it wasn't as awful as he was afraid it would be, and he's willing to come with me.  We might check out some other clubs, too, preferably ones that are on weekends instead of week nights.  I just can't do that party-until-2am-then-be-at-work-by-8am thing anymore!!!!
