Trying Something Different

"It's raining, it's pouring,
My whole life is boring me to tears,
After all these years..."

Yes, I know, it sounds a bit drastic.  BUT since that's how I've been feeling for about a year now (or more?), and it's been getting worse lately, I've decided it's okay to be a little melodramatic here and there, at least here.  I can complain all I want, and if no one wants to hear/read it, they don't have to.

In an effort to be less bored (and consequently, less boring as well), I've decided to try doing something each day that I don't normally do, whether it's changing something in my routine, or something else.  So last night we went grocery shopping after I got home from work.  Normally we do our main shopping on Saturday morning or afternoon, then I go to Trader Joe's on Sunday mornings for my lunches and special stuff.  Last night was a Thursday, so this was a serious change in my routine.  When I stopped at the pharmacy counter to get my prescription refilled, our pharmacist looked at me in surprise and said, "It's not Saturday, is it?"  Eeek, if my routine is THAT obvious to others who don't even know me well, no WONDER I'm bored!!

Then we went to our favorite Chinese restaurant and ordered take-out, which we haven't done in ages.  While waiting for the food, we went next door to Grocery Outlet, and I found a box of five lily-of-the-valley bulbs for only $1.99.  Since they are shade plants, I decided they'd be perfect for the total shade area next to the new fence in my garden.  However, I just read that they are extremely aggressive, and will not only spread quickly but will also grow a dense mat of roots that will keep anything else from growing near them.  So I think I will plant them in raised pots, at least for the time being!  I've got a long rectangular one that should be just the thing.

Now to see what I can do differently today.  Well, I ate a doughnut when I got to work, had a banana for my morning snack instead of in the afternoon, and went to the library on my break.  Do those count???

life changes, garden
