Things That Make My Days Brighter (Booze, Books, and Underwear)

Now that I'm at home, being waited on hand and foot by adoring parents and not having any obligations at all, my days sometimes tend to blur together in a haze of mom-made soup and Zabar's goat cheese. So here are some things that have made the past 24 hours stand out:

- $4 cocktails downtown with two high school friends who remind me that not everyone from my high school is living in NY-rich-bubble world.
- Confirming that the reason I hated all my old bras was because they were the wrong size. And then buying discounted bras in the right size! You men out there might be skeptical, but the right-fitting bra is revolutionary. It makes life beautiful (and boobs look good).
- Discovering that the French are brilliant for making all their books the exact same size, thereby making it super easy to fill a box with my entire collection of French literature, in nice orderly rows. (The only reason this box got filled was because it was there. But hey, now I've officially got one thing packed for grad school!)
- And finally, receiving the best long underwear ever from REI. I am obsessed with it. No, seriously. It is Hot Chillys Midweight Waffle (I got both top and bottoms - so soft and waffley!), and I think I am never going to take off this shirt (it has thumb holes!). I am actually sort of looking forward to Minnesota being cold, so I can wear the pants everywhere. (Too bad that then they are going to smell, and I'll be too lazy to wash them right away, and Minnesota will still be cold for another 5 months. Maybe I need to invest in more than one set...)

OK I realize now that a lot of this is about underwear. But what can I say? Good underwear makes the day brighter.
