Back from Sweden

I'm back! Whew. This has been a lot of traveling and I will need some time to unwind. But here are my pictures from Sweden. The only main event that was not included was a day we went ice skating - hopefully Sarah will put up some pictures soon. I fail at ice skating... but I probably haven't skated since I was 12, so that's fine. And it was really fun anyway! So now I have a winter project for next year: learn to skate.

This is going to be a shoddy recap of Sweden. The pictures say most of it. The one thing I will add is that it reminded me surprisingly of Minnesota - downtown Stockholm was quite Minneapolis-esque, except maybe a little more design-y along the lines of IKEA, and Uppsala was just like Northfield, only around 4 times the size. So now we know why the Scandinavians went to the Midwest: it was just like home! But since the weather was so nice (a bit cold, but totally pleasant and not windy) it made me excited to go back to MN. This will change next January when the weather is much.much. worse than Stockholm's... but at least there is a bit more daylight.

And today after I got back to my apartment, I had the time to walk down to Surcouf and get a new mp3 player, a little 2GB Sony which, for 50 Euros, will certainly carry me through for all my lesson-planning and podcast-listening needs. It also makes me laugh, since it's called a Walkman and reminds me of the days when we all listened to music on tapes. I walked back through the Promenade Plantée, a raised garden that goes from the 12th arrondissment up to Bastille. It was warm, I had on my spring jacket, and there were cute little buds on the trees... Paris, are you starting to be spring? Things are looking up.
