Ever since I've been in France, whenever things seem to be going really well, something really annoying gets thrown in my face. For example: I get an apartment? My laptop breaks. I think I can get my residence card? No, won't be ready for another week. I finally finish all the administrative crap? I start getting letters from the CAF asking for more documents before they can grant me my housing reimbursement. I go on some nice vacations to Nice and Rome? Of course I can't go karmically unscathed.
This is to say that my iPod spontaneously died in Rome (just in time for my train ride!) and if I were to send it away for repairs, it would cost almost as much as a new iPod. Of course this wasn't surprising, since I've had it since 2003, when iPods were still in black and white and 20GB was a lot of storage space. But still. Gahhhh.
And of course the enormous January sales have just ended - again, my cosmic timing always seems to work -great-. So, can anyone recommend a good replacement mp3 player? I'd start looking for iPods, but I get the sense that other brands are cheaper and equally good.
