I knew that about celery, but it doesn't seem like it could be true of apples. There is so much natural sugar in apples that you would think it couldn't be burned off by chewing and digestion. Perhaps the high levels of fiber in an apple do something to counteract that sugar and allow you to burn the calories faster.
I know that high fiber foods do effect the glucose index of certain foods, so maybe that is the key.
I have also read that if you put a scorpion into a ring of fire, after it moves from side to side and realises its predicament, it will sting itself and commit suicide in that situation.
It is the only other living creature on earth, besides humans, that can (or will) self-terminate.
