The Concert

As I mentioned a couple months ago in an entry named Bostyx! Boston and Styx played at the Baton Rouge River Center last night. And I went with Derrick and my coworker Dustin. My parents, sister, and bro-in-law, and Derrick's parents, uncle, and aunt had tickets too. So we all went to eat before. Derrick's dad asked us if we ever imagined that we would be going to a concert with our parents [willingly at least].
Me, Derrick and Dustin were in the 21st row, my parents were in the 3rd row, and everyone else was in the 17th row.

Anyways, I found out before the concert that each band's original lead singer (among other members of course) had died and thus been replaced. So I was kinda hesitant to believe that the songs would be as good as the originals.

Styx was freakin awesome. They played a couple songs that we didn't know, but they were good ones all the same. And the ones that we did know...they rocked. There were about 3 members that sang "lead" for different songs, and I believe two were original members and the other one was the new lead singer that I heard about. Well, judging by the songs he sang, he sounded exactly like the original.
Also, one of the guitarists/singers, though talented, was kind of a douche bag. He kept holding the guitar perpendicular to his body (as if it were a penis) and making weird faces at the audience as if he were saying "See how cool I am? Yeah...You didn't think you'd see someone as cool as me, did ya?" And that's when he wasn't even playing anything! I kept laughing at him, shaking my head, and saying "douche" anytime he did all that nonsense.

We were mostly eager to see Boston and rock out to their music. However, we were highly disappointed.
First, let me start out by saying that the replacement lead singer looked as if they picked some random fat guy out of the audience and asked him if he could sing with them. He had a beer belly and a Ron Jeremy moustache, and wearing a black t-shirt tucked into his jeans. His hair was short - not long like a true rocker - not even a mullet. He sang the songs well, though he couldn't do any of the high notes. And we later found out that they chose him because he was at a kareoke thing and he sang the songs decently and he knew all of the words. Also, at the end when one of the original members were calling out each of the players by name and what instrument they played...he said "Courtesy of Home Depot...." for that replacement singer. Fantastic.

Now, the Boston part of the concert as a whole....
Derrick put it perfectly when he said "They're not playing anything. It just sounds like their jamming." That was after 10 minutes or so of them playing non-stop with no singing. People were leaving. We were sitting down yawning. It was kind of annoying. They played about 4-5 songs that we actually had heard before, another 3-4 songs that we had not heard before, and the rest of it was random instrumental stuff that was alright but not worth it.

I now regret buying the Boston panties at the souvenier table.
