NUS Update

A billion computer terminals connected to the internet across the whole campus...

And I can't use 99% of them because I haven't matriculated.

...

I checked in on 15 July and, upon moving in, set about hunting for computers I could use. For some absurb reason, I'd thought that just anybody could use any of the computers on campus, when of course that isn't true and only matriculated students could use those terminals. So I hadn't bothered getting a few necessary phone numbers from Malaysia, necessary for a camp for Malaysian students; having planned on logging on in NUS to do so.

Then I found out I couldn't, and I screamed, and buried my sorrows in Anansi Boys, and I worked up a pretty good sweat trekking from faculty to library to every-frigging-where looking for a computer I could use. I think circled the campus several times in my first day. I'm pretty sure the bus drivers recognise me from just sitting in the bus while they made their rounds. @_@

On Wednesday, the camp gathered at the foyer of my apartment building, almost literally my front door, and I just slid in quietly. No one (except the LJ community) shall know of this rather useless hunt... No one.

But now I have found this tiny, supah-sekret computer room at the basement of my apartment, and holy crap am I gonna use it until I get that matriculation card. I have almost ten windows opened at the same time, trying to multitask within the alloted 20-minute timeframe for each individual user. I've never had to tear myself away from a computer in this short a time before. It's almost traumatic.

But basically, this is a post to say I arrived safely and didn't fall off the Causeway and drown. :D
