Fandom: Young Justice
Characters: Wally, Wally's Parents
Summary: Wally knows his parents aren't the best parents, but it doesn't mean they don't care.
----------------
Wally knows his parents try to be good parents. They aren’t always very good at it, but it’s more because they don’t know what to do emotionally half the time that it often appeared that his parents were neglectful. They can just never say the right thing. Admittedly, when Batman comes across more parental then his own parents, it would raise a few eyebrows.
There are a few times when he has to complain about his parents’ lack of ability to speak the right words, because the lack of spoken support can be frustrating at times. (It’s probably why he relied on Aunt Iris and Uncle Barry for spoken emotional support part of his life.) Robin merely quirked the side of his lips up into a smirk, slightly laughing at Wally but relating to him at the same time.
But that doesn’t mean his parents don’t love him. It just takes a more careful eye to find their love in actions.
It’s small little things, like the fact that there’s always an already made sandwich in the fridge every midnight or them taking time off to come to his science fair.
So the day Wally is introducing his teammates to his parents also happened to be the day when Captain Cold crashed the party. Before the team can (stealthy) intervene, his parents were already on their feet, armed with a gun blaster (there were perks to being related to speedsters, no non-meta family member is without some of training in defense).
“Touch the kids and you’re toast Mister,” his mom said, her gun blaster aimed at Captain Cold’s chest.
Surprisingly (or perhaps not really, moms were scary creatures), Captain Cold left without a fight. Wally can only grin widely as his teammates (minus Robin who already knew this is exactly how they would react) stared at his parents.
So his parents weren’t the world greatest communicators. It didn’t mean they didn’t love him. After all actions speak louder than words.
