Hah! Grades were posted overnight, and I still eked out an A in the class. It was the lowest A I've received so far in this coursework, but, hey - to debate it further would be petty and unproductive. It's done, and I have three blissful weeks until my last semester begins.
Saturday we attended Janet's open house. Nice collection of folks, mostly family and neighbors, but the three of us did get a chance to sit and chat. Her grandson is really, really cute in that 'squished newborn' kinda way. She showed us some of her old material from previous Tarot conferences, and it sparked a few new ideas about her site. She's rather taken with 1995-era website design, so I'm hoping to update her style quite a bit. I just hope it's not so radical that she can't stomach it.
We got back into the city around 4pm, then met up with Ray and Jeremy for dinner. The weather had changed from hot and muggy to stormy, so we decided not to head to Boystown, instead opting for El Cid here in Logan Square. Ray recommended their fish tacos (excellent, except for the corn tortillas). They mix the baked fish with a little cilantro and seasoning, and it was very moist and flaky. We chatted about all the stuff they missed from Wellspring as well as Chris and Jeremy's discussions about the Scholars Guild.
Afterward we headed to the Starbucks patio, and sat chewing the fat for a while. Their schedules are slowing down a bit now, with Jeremy studying for the bar in July, and Ray's schoolwork being reduced to a slow Summer pace. It was good just getting out and being social; I miss it, and hope we four can get together on a more regular basis. Once we closed the patio, we headed back to Mozart and sat on the deck until we were all wound out. While I love being social, it's pretty draining, so I was exhausted by the end of it.
Peapod came on Sunday, and we spent the day WoWing. Last night's dinner was experimental. I made pasta rustica with fresh chopped tomatoes, scallops, garlic and oregano over fettuccine. Chris found the tomatoes a bit sharp (probably too much balsamic vinegar). Overall it wasn't bad, but I'll have to do some thinking about how to make it more palatable for him. I made out the next two weeks' menus, trying to vary our diet more. We really need to be eating more vegetables...with the assistance of Miss Paula, maybe we can get out of the foodrut we're in.
Dad couldn't wait for me to call him for Father's Day, so he rang up Sunday morning. He loved the restaurant gift certificate (thanks to
romandruid's suggestion). They've decided to fly to Chicago in either August or September for a visit rather than try to drive the 900 miles. Dad's diabetes is being held in closer check with his daily workouts on the elliptical trainer. He's only had two days in the last three weeks with blood sugar over 200 since he started getting some exercise, and his doctor said overall circulation is much, much better. The family was taking him to Mi Casita for Father's Day dinner, so he was happy. I'm just glad that I got him something he likes and will use (thanks again, Jenni!)
