Okay, so two awesome things have turned up.
One is that our initial numbers are in at the high school, for enrollment in Latin classes. It's not actually official yet, but we have enough students signed up that there are going to be seven Latin classes next year. This means we have to get a second Latin teacher at the school! I am both excited and nervous about this - I built this program with my own two hands, and I'm a wee bit possessive of it. I'm glad we're getting a second teacher, and that the program is growing, and that there will be another person working with a lot of the aspects of running the program - it's frankly already too big for one person. I teach 178 students just at the high school level this year. I'm scared that they'll get a teacher who has actually been teaching for longer than I have in my county, who's transferring from another school, who will come in and try to run the program - and will technically have the seniority to do it. But I think the chances of that are honestly pretty slim. So it's a good thing.
The second is that, contrary to my initial resolution, I am in fact going to be teaching two classes at the university again in the fall, assuming that the seven HS classes becomes official. They're having trouble finding someone for one of the Latin 101 classes, because people either want to work full time, or want to teach the 201 class - which is mine already. I got word of this on the same day that I found out that five of my students have just registered their intent to Minor in Latin (or in one case, to add a Classics concentration to a Comparative Literature major)! Given that the university has been having serious trouble with their degree programs in Latin and classics, this is a serious feather in my cap. And the schedule for next year works out such that I'll actually be spending much less time at the campus, and have much more free time in the evenings (I'll be teaching two days a week instead of four, with the exception of exam weeks).
So yeah! Awesomeness!
