Oh, wow... oh, wow.

I waited to post. I went to bed feeling good about the election but still not ready to believe it. I went to bed thinking Obama had probably won, but I thought the news might have called Ohio and Iowa and a couple of other states too early.

But I wake up this morning and the numbers are still there. I wake up with a horrendous cold, but I don't care, because Barack Obama was just elected President of the United States of America.

I just watched McCain's concession speech, and am awed by the dignity, statesmanship, humility, and love for America just demonstrated by John McCain. All Republicans on my f-list, you chose an excellent candidate to represent you in this election. I wish he had been surrounded by people of similar caliber - I know it would have made the race incredibly close, and possibly even reversed the outcome, but we might have had the Senator McCain from back in 2000 as President, the Senator John McCain displayed in that concession speech, and I cannot help but think he also would have been good for this country.

I am thrilled with the outcome, of course. I voted for Barack Obama, and everyone who knows me knows it. And I am honored to have been a part of this moment.

My first thought when I saw the numbers this morning was, I woke up in a world that's a better place today than it was yesterday. And then I realized, no. It has been this way for at least a short while - it has just taken a very special leader to make me realize it.

I love this country so much, and today I am experiencing the reasons why more vividly than in a long time.

yayness, politics
