There is one debate thing I have to rant about. Well, two.
Firstly, the short rant. With perfect consistency, she mispronounced "nuclear" in the same way that Bush does. It creeps me out.
Okay, the long rant. homasse made an excellent point on her LJ when she said that Palin acted like someone who has learned that being pretty gets her things.
Spot on comment, I think. And it bothers me enough that I'm cross-posting my response:
When I commented on her sparkly cheerleader postures, and putting her head on one side and winking and tossing her hair and practically using baby-talk like she did, my mother (who hates Palin as much as I do, by the way) said she thought I was being unfair, harping on Palin for being feminine.
She wasn't merely being feminine. She was doing the thing I see high school girls do, deliberately suppressing any spark of intelligence she may have and looking as pretty as she can, both entirely for the benefit of the boys watching her. It's a habit I crusade against pretty openly in school, and I certainly don't want to see it in the White House. It's offensive and contributes to so many of the problems women face in the world as we work to be treated equally.
