Okay, so apparently copyright law as concerns teacher-created educational material needs serious work.
Apparently a case in New York established that any material created by a teacher either a)on a school computer or with the help of any school resources, or b)for use in a school classroom, is then the property of the school district, and no profit can be made from it in any way, including its use in another school district.
This has gone all the way to federal courts, and is being upheld.
Apparently no one has yet noticed that this effectively makes collaboration between teachers of different districts illegal. If I send copies of my materials to someone in a different district, and they send me materials, that's a violation of our districts' copyright on the materials we created.
Also, um, the idea that if I leave my school district I have to start over with creating Latin grammar materials? FUCK THAT SHIT.
Fortunately, the teachers' unions are spitting nails, and I swear to fucking god counties will find themselves in deep fucking shit if they don't find a way to make this work for the teachers. Otherwise we are looking at something that will set teaching as a profession back at least thirty years.
And I thought College Board was bad.
Speaking of which, dear College Board, please tell us WHAT YEAR THE NEW AP LATIN IS GOING TO START. No love, me.
