Title: Overlapping Worlds
Pairing: Sehun/Kai
Rating: R
Summary: They live in the same house, in the same space, at the same time. In the same world, but not really.
A/N: Do not expect. OTL

Sunday. Luhan had moved back to his apartment. Sehun spent the entire day with him, hanging out at their favorite bubble tea shop and just teasing each other how much they'll miss one another. At the end of the day, Sehun went home alone. And til there, he was alone.

Monday. Sehun woke up to the usual bright sunshine passing through his room, a soft drizzle outside explained the humid atmosphere despite the strong sun rays. The sound of the small raindrops splattered across the ground. Sehun listened to his own breathing synchronized with the soft taps outside. And til there, that's all he heard.

Tuesday. Sehun had no appetite for breakfast. He sat by the table staring at his untouched cereal, lost in his own thoughts. His mind wandered to an empty place, a place he could never see... the place where he could be.

Wednesday. The silence in the house was depressing. He barely gets up from bed and do anything anymore. The place was so empty and he couldn't bring himself to move. He was starting to become the old Sehun back then. The lifeless, lonely, and suffering Sehun. But wasn't it his fault?

Thursday. Sehun curled up in his bed, his knees touching his chest, his eyes tightly shut, biting his lip with the hope of the pain to go away if he bites harder. But the pain wasn't just physical, it was deep inside his chest eating him alive. Swimming in guilt and pointing the blame at himself. He was helpless.

Friday. Sehun was sweating and squirming in his sleep. He was calling out his name, only his name. The nightmares were becoming worse and worse. He panted as he opened his eyes, sitting up to get more oxygen inside his system. He swallowed everything in, the bad dreams that have been chasing him. He lied back down, facing the other side of his bed, empty. Tears rolled down his cheeks and painful sobs came after. He reached out for the invisible face he'd been dreaming of.

"Kai." He whispered painfully. "Come back."

What he didn't know was that Kai is still next to him. Just not in his world. Alone. Also whispering his name. Kai faced the supposed to be Sehun beside him, and he also reached out for thin air. A tear falling.

***

Sehun opened his eyes, they stung from the endless crying all night. He barely could get up as all his limbs weakened, not having the energy to get them to work properly. Sehun bowed his head low as he sat up on the edge of his bed. He was losing hope. How long had Kai been gone? How long had he been waiting? He felt like giving up. Maybe this was the answer to his question. Maybe Kai was really a product of his imagination, of his illusions. Maybe he thought he'd feel better if he draws an invisible friend, someone he thought he can be with for the rest of his life. But his friend didn't last long, just like how a drawing never lasts. In time the ink fades, the paper crumples, and the imagery ceases to exist. Was Kai the same?

He pulled out his drawer and there lied the sketch he made for him. The face stared back at him, a pretty smile on its lips, the eyes crinkled at the sides, its hair the usual ruffled hair of him. An inked replica of Kai. The one he tried so hard to come up with. The only face he had drawn, the only face he had perfected, the only face that's left marked in his mind, in his eyes, in his heart. The face he might not see anymore. A teardrop fell on Kai's drawing, the ink blotted at the part. Sehun wiped his tears immediately. He was determined to show him his piece, he had promised him. He will find him.

Sehun totally changed that morning. He went straight to the kitchen to take a meal, something he hasn't done in a while. He stuffed himself well, trying to gain more energy to help himself up. He was determined, he will find Kai. After digging into a heavy breakfast, Sehun took out a pen and paper. He scribbled really fast on it before putting it up against the fridge door.

I miss your cooking. I miss you. The note said.

Sehun proceeded to clean the house. He wanted it to look perfect when Kai comes back. He put a note on each thing that he had memories with Kai as he passed by them. He stuck one on the tub and it says, I miss the bubbles you make. I miss you.

There was one on the TV. I miss the shows we laugh at and cry to together. I miss you.

I miss the talks we had on the phone. I miss you.

I miss hanging out in the couch with you. I miss you.

I miss our tootbrush battle. I miss you.

I miss lying on the floor with you. I miss you.

On his bedpost, he put, I miss yor weight on my bed. I miss you.

I miss our nights together. I miss you.

Lastly, he stuck a note on his drawing. I miss your face. I miss you. Come back to me, Kai.

When he finished cleaning the whole house, it was already late. He wiped the sweat on his forehead as he collapsed on the couch, his muscles were starting to get sore and he was exhausted. He took a glimpse of his surroundings, a room full of notes sticking everywhere, full of scribbles of i miss you's!, before unwillingly closing his eyes to rest. Nothing else was on his mind before he lost consciousness, just Kai.

There was a sudden force that made Sehun open his eyes. Followed by it was a major headache. He forced his eyes shut for a moment to get a grip on himself, and slowly he opened them again. The room had changed. It was the same space he had been in a minute ago, but the notes were no longer there. He squinted his eyes to get a better focus of his view, pushing the headache to the back of his mind. The room was eerie and it felt empty. Sehun sat up straight on the couch, gently massaging his temples as his headache won't come off. For a second, he was unaware of anything. The next second, he felt the presence of a company. His heart beat fast.

He looked up and a robust figure of a guy stood tall across the room. He was leaning on the pillar at the corner, obviously watching him as he sleeps.

Sehun's eyes widened at the recognition of the face. "Kai."

Kai straightened up and gazed at Sehun, something that would normally send a flutter in his stomach.

"You've found me." Kai announced the obvious. His tone wasn't accusing, nor angry. It was spoken softly, as if it was a relief.

Sehun couldn't say another word. The emotions rolling into him were powerful. Something got stuck in his throat that no voice would come out. He felt his eyes brimming with hot tears and he wanted to look away, but he couldn't look away. He was facing the one he had wanted to see the most for the past days. Sehun stood, slowly as his knees were shaking. He inhaled and it turned into a gasp. He closed his mouth in case he loses control of his emotions. He was close to sobbing.

When no one spoke, Sehun gulped and opened his mouth. "I've found you." He said weakly.

A tear fell from the corner of his eye.

As if Kai couldn't hold it any longer, he dashed to him and grabbed the fragile form of Sehun. He pulled him into the tighest hug, bodies pressed hard against each other, as if telling a promise of not letting go. Kai wrapped his arms around Sehun, almost squeezing the whole of him until their bodies are one. Sehun gripped the back of Kai's shirt like it's the only thing that will save him. He buried his face on the crook of his neck, the tears pouring out like the waterfall, endless. He spoke and whispered things but nothing coherent came out. Kai gently rubbed his back to ease his sobbing, trying to calm the younger down. When Sehun has gulped a few oxygen back to himself, he tried to stop crying, but he still kept his face hidden in Kai's neck.

"You left me." He accused him. A few more tears landed on Kai's shirt.

"You didn't need me." Kai simply answered, not in any tone of blaming him. Just resignation.

"I needed you. I need you." Sehun pushed him a bit but pulled again, not letting go of his shirt.

Kai wrapped his arm on Sehun's waist closer and tighter.

"I'm here now." He said.

Sehun inhaled Kai's scent, he had missed it so much. "I'm sorry. I was wrong." He whispered onto Kai's neck, breathing on his wet skin tainted by his tears.

"I doubted your existence. I thought I was going crazy, making you up in my mind and pretending that I have someone." Sehun started crying again. "I thought that it was all a lie. I tried to wake up from it. But I ended up losing you. And I can't take it."

Understanding dawned on Kai. He held him closer to him, resting his chin on his back and cuddling him gently. Sehun loosened his grip on his shirt and pulled away a bit to look at his face.

"I miss you. You don't know how much. I--"

Kai cut him mid-sentence as he placed a soft kiss on his lips that lasted a few seconds. Sehun had never felt the same sensation from anyone else. He nearly broke down at the kiss as it sent flashes of memories of them together during the past few months. Kai rested his forehead on his when he broke apart and just stared at Sehun's watery eyes.

"I miss you too." Kai told him, holding him still by the waist as he gave him a sincere and meaningful look. Sehun bit his lip and tried to open his mouth to talk. But Kai interrupted him with another kiss. This time he kissed him full on the lips, as if the yearning for it has been very long. Sehun backed a few steps as Kai advanced on him, keeping his hips locked to his. They hit a wall and Sehun relaxed his back on the cold concrete plain wall while Kai leaned in more until they were totally pressed against it, breaking it if they push any further. They never broke apart and Sehun's hands were all over Kai, praising each part of him with his touch. Kai pulled his hips even closer that their bones in contact start to ache and Sehun had his back leaning on the wall, his hips disconnected from it and glued to Kai's.

Kai did the same favor to Sehun, while the latter was expressing himself through all his touches, by exploring Sehun's warm cavern with his wet soft tongue, nibbling on his lower lip and sinking his teeth onto them when he's losing it with just the pleasure of tasting Sehun that way. He would suck on the bite and carress it with his tongue to erase the pain but Sehun didn't mind. He was also close to losing it as he mapped every inch of Kai's skin under his shirt. The ache of having been separated clearly visible in their eyes and their gestures. Kai pushed his tongue in harder, looping onto Sehun's responding one. He was winning over and Sehun was just giving in, their tongues dancing beautifully in a synchronized rhythm. Sehun hooked his finger on Kai's belt loop and tugged on it, needy. Kai felt it and the heat temperature in between them soared up higher. The dominating one grabbed a fistful of Sehun's shirt and took it off of him in one swift motion. The air blowing on his skin made him shiver despite their heated kiss, and Kai wrapped his arms gently on the barenaked Sehun to cover him up a bit.

They paused for a while, panting from the sudden action, their chests rising and falling in a chaotic tempo.

"Don't leave me." Sehun suddenly muttered. He had always been wanting to say that to him. If he could spend the rest of his life with him, despite all the mysterious things that come with it, he's willing to have it.

Kai gazed at him heartwarmingly, a small smile on his lips, heart beating faster than ever. He ran his thumb gently on Sehun's cheek, erasing the dry trace of his tears from earlier. He traced his thumb down his jaw until he reached his chin and pulled him in for another kiss. This time, Kai took his time as he slowly planted light kisses on his lips. They both curved into a smile while Sehun responded in the same rhythm of his partner's movements. Kai pecked him on the underside of his lips, slowly moving down to his jaw. He kissed him there firmly, dragging to the bottom of his jaw and slightly trailing upwards, tracing a path of jawline kisses up to his ear. Sehun closed his eyes at the sensation and hugged him in the middle for support aside from the wall behind him. Kai reached his earlobe and he gently licked the tip, doing swirl motions under his ear that tickled Sehun in a very positive way. His grip on him tightened when Kai took an earlobe in between his lips and gently tugged on it down a few times before adding a tongue, surrounding the outer of his ear with wet kisses and finally dipping it into his ear. Sehun shuddered for a moment and hugged Kai closer to him, burying his face onto his shoulder. Kai took his face into both his hands and kissed him firmly on the lips once more. He kissed the tip of his nose, jumping to his chin, and finally to the side of his neck. The younger tilted his head a bit to give Kai a more convenient access to his exposed skin. Kai paused at one point, his lips ghosted on the throbbing skin on his neck, wet and a bit flushed. He blew air on the spot for a bit before pressing an open mouth on it and gently sucked on the skin. He repeated it a few times, Sehun breathing hard on his ear, letting out a low soft moan that Kai could barely hear, but he knew it was there. He sucked on it harder, teeth getting in contact with the redenning small spot, before blowing air on it again. Sehun felt like losing his mind at Kai's aggressiveness and gentleness at the same time. He didn't realize that he was clawing his shoulders a little too hard. The other continued with his ministrations, licking and biting randomly on the extension between Sehun's collarbone and shoulders.

Sehun had to pull his head back and hung it low when Kai teased just the skin in the center of his neck where his apple would normally show. Kai's tongue traced the bump that moved when Sehun gulped for oxygen. He moved upwards, leaving trails of wet kisses on its path, up to the skin just under his chin. Sehun, who's eyes were closed and face facing the ceiling, groaned and the vibration it made in his throat made Kai smile. He kissed the skin lovingly until he met his chin. He took it into his mouth and bit on the tip, enveloping his chin with wet soft thick lips. He sucked on it mildly before claiming his lips one more time.

A few more minutes of making out in the living room, and Sehun's elbows were already hurting from trying to support him and Kai's weight pressed onto the wall. He had developed hickeys all over his shoulders and chest but he didn't care. He was half-naked but Kai was still fully-clothed in front of him. Kai put a knee in between his legs and their inner thighs touched, the heat escaped their skin that made contact like wildfire. Sehun fumbled for Kai's belt buckle, his fingers shaking at the hype of the situation. He put more force in his hands as he pulled on his belt, completely pulling it out of its loopholes. He unbuttoned his jeans with throbbing hands and when he successfully unzipped him, Kai pulled his chin up to look him in the eyes.

He nodded slightly at Sehun and he understood. They advanced on each other, the crash of their lips strong and hard. They were back to their heated kiss, this time, it came out a bit rough as both aggressively want a taste of each other. Kai gripped both Sehun's arms as he pushed the younger to move from the wall and they stumbled their way into the bedroom. Sehun locked his arms on Kai's neck when they entered the door to their bedroom, not breaking the kiss at all. Kai lifted him the moment they reached the bed and laid him down gently, following on top of him. Sehun immediately pulled Kai's shirt above him with his long arms and threw it to the side. Kai positioned Sehun in between his legs, his knees on both sides of his hips, while he reached out for Sehun's face, pushing aside his hair to look at him better while they make love. Sehun rested his hands on Kai's waist, anticipating the next actions to come. The older leaned down to kiss him on the forehead while the the other closed his eyes to focus on the touch of his lips. He pecked each part of his face, promising to be just as gentle as the last time. While he gave him a kiss on his eyes, nose, cheek, lips, Sehun reached out for the barely hanging there pants of Kai and pulled it lower until there was only his boxers as the hindrance. Kai kicked his pants to get rid of them completely and turned to unzip the younger under him. He kissed him then and there, lowering himself, leaving kisses on his exposed skin, down to his navel where Kai dipped his tongue in the small hollow in which Sehun squirmed as a reaction. The dominant one licked downward until he reached the button of Sehun's pants. He worked on it with his fingers, popping the button open and unzipping him to free him from the strain in his pants. He kissed him there, Sehun moaned loudly, not able to restrain himself anymore. He had been wanting him, waiting for him, aching for him and his time has come. He squeezed his eyes shut as Kai worked him down there, his lips slightly parted breathing heavily.

The moonlight emitted dark shadows in the room. Kai and Sehun were both drowning in pleasure as they wrapped their bodies together, intertwined by the hips, making out magical music from their moans and groans and panting. Sehun was grasping a lock of Kai's hair, expressing all his feelings with his fingers on Kai's scalp and hips. Kai bit on Sehun's shoulder as he, too, couldn't hold the growl escaping his lips out of bliss from the rocking of their hips, the melodic atmosphere added with the creaking of the bed and the sweet nothings that slipped both their tongues. Kai dove onto the gap between Sehun's neck and shoulder and attacked him there, tugging skin on his lips and occasionally slipping a tongue in and out. Sehun's fingernails dug deeper onto Kai's back as they moved into a calm and swift rhythm, meeting each other half-way, dancing harmoniously into the night. The younger breathed Kai's name when the sound of the slapping of skin against skin was the only thing ringing inside their ears. They rode their climax, the pleasure bursting inside them, their skins sticking to each other, and the air being filled with the smell of all their wonders, slowly
drugging them to sleep. Kai eased up and pulled out of Sehun, falling right next to him. He caressed his face, blowing the hair from Sehun's half-lidded eyes. Both of them were tired out and exhausted and they can barely give audible compliments. Kai breathed on his face while Sehun snuggled closer to him. They felt their hearts beat against each other as Kai held him in his arms. The blood was pumped violently in their ears, the atmosphere was turning mute as sleep tugs on them deeper. Kai softly planted a light kiss on Sehun's forehead. And as they both stared at each other in the eyes, holding the memories of the night closest to their hearts, Kai whispered, "I love you Sehun."

Sehun opened his eyes into the darkness. He woke up with his sides sore and his legs aching even at the slightest movements. He noticed that he was finally in his clothes and he didn't have any recollection how he'd been in them. The cold air told him that it wasn't even past 3AM yet, hence the blinding blackness in the room. In a short gasp, a fear dawned onto him as the thought of everything having been just a dream crashed into his thoughts. He quickly reached out in front of him, technically his side, and his heartbeat slowed down when his hand found the warm flesh of a sleeping Kai beside him. He clutched his arm, afraid of letting go of him and the memories of last night still lingering into his mind fresh and repeating. He rolled to him closer, with much effort having his limbs useless at the moment. He threw an arm on his middle, pulling themselves towards each other to give one another heat against the cold ambiance. When he buried his head onto Kai's clothed chest, the other stirred and opened one heavy-lidded eye.

"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" Sehun cupped his face, kissing the tip of his chin. Kai tightly welcomed him to an embrace and grunted that it's nothing. He rolled on the bed, taking Sehun on top of him, clinging to his body in case he falls. He smelled him on the crook of his neck, his breath tickling his skin there.

"Thank you, Kai." Sehun whispered as he snuggled closer to the darker one's body, inhaling him too as if it's his own drug to his all his pain.

"No, thank you Sehun." Kai answered, any hint of drowsiness ebbing away as he spoke tenderly and meaningfully. His face turned serious and Sehun could only make out his face from the light coming from the window. He had noticed it since he woke up from the couch earlier but he had no time to point it out. But now that he'd been staring into it, it dawned onto him.

"I am not home." It wasn't a question.

"Technically, you aren't." Kai sighed and there was an edge to his voice. As if his time had come. As though there's nothing else to explain but the situation.

"You mean I'm..." Sehun's eyes widened.

"You've finally crossed mine." There was a tone of gratefulness in his voice. He didn't know it would work, but it did. He waited for Sehun to cross his world all this time. He believed that if the feeling was strong enough, it could take him to him. And it did. There was nothing but joy and delight that filled his heart when he saw Sehun emerge onto his couch that day. But the happiness in him didn't last long. He knew that it's not right to keep it going. He smiled bitterly at Sehun.

"I crossed your world." Sehun repeated. A sincere smile broke out onto his face. "I can finally take a look at yours. I can freely be with you now." The joy in his tone made Kai's heart want to melt at his words, and at the same time break.

"Do you wanna hear a secret?" He loosened his embrace and let Sehun slide down to his side, dropping him gently. "Do you wanna know who Kai is?"

Sehun couldn't keep up with where Kai was going, but he nodded instead of asking questions. He took his hand and intertwined their fingers, giving him a light squeeze to encourage him to go on.

Kai heavily sighed before putting his face very closely to Sehun's, their noses touching. And he spoke.

"I'm Kai. And I forced myself into your world." He closed his eyes, he wasn't sure whether this confession would do him any good, or if Sehun would even ever believe him. But the younger stayed silent, his breath gently blowing Kai's face. "I don't know how, just one day I opened my eyes and I'm already in front of your house." He paused, waiting for a reaction but the other just listened.

"I pretended to not know you. What really brought me here is my desperation. I was desperate to meet you. I needed to see you, to get to you, to warn you." Kai gulped before continuing.

"We've met in the future, not far from now. I'm from your future Sehun. We met through an accident. And Sehun... you, you are dying. You were dying when I left. It was my fault. I couldn't take it. I was the reason why a man's life is being taken. Your life."

"I dreamt of you, that same night of the accident. I wanted to go back and rewind, to correct and prevent the accident. I don't know how desperate I was to go back, but one day it brought me to you. A few months back. It took me to a few months before the accident, before we actually met. And we met. I didn't expect it would turn out this way, that we'd be stuck in different worlds when we do. Maybe, it's because our worlds are yet to meet, that's why it just overlapped. Because it was forced. I forced it."

"I was guilty when I came to you. Until it wasn't just guilt that made me stay. You were like the only life I've been clinging to. Like there's nothing else I'm going back to. There was only you. In my world, there's only you."

"And I can't accept it if you die."

Kai stopped to wait for a response. Sehun blinked, his thoughts scattered as he tried to take in everything he had said. It didn't make sense to him, but it answered a few questions he had been keeping. Like, why exactly they overlapped. It was hard to understand, but he could understand.

"What accident?" The only words that came out of Sehun. He wasn't smiling, nor frowning. Kai couldn't judge whether he's mad or not. But he breathed in deeply and stared into Sehun's eyes.

"A car accident. When you were running to Luhan. I saw him. I believe it was him. He dashed into your hospital room immediately after they rescued us. Rescued me. We collided in a dark street. It was bad, I don't even know how I survived. The mess was sickening. I saw you..." Kai trailed off, an image of the accident playing in his mind. Seeing Sehun that way made his insides churn, he couldn't take it.

"When's the accident happening?" Their hands still intertwined, Sehun sounded serious.

"8 days from now." Kai glued his forehead onto his, he closed his eyes as if praying for time to stop. No matter what, he'd try to stop it. Even though he doesn't know how.

Sehun inhaled deeply and stared at Kai's anxious face.

"Were you happy?" Sehun asked in a whisper. "Were you happy when you met me? Not in the car accident, not in the hospital. Here. Were you happy?"

Kai opened his eyes to look at Sehun. There was a glitter in his eyes, and it hurt him that it hurt him. "Always am."

"Then I can go." Sehun muttered.

Kai shook his head frantically at his stupid statement. "I won't let you. I will stop it." He gritted his teeth as hot tears threatened to pour out of his moist eyes. A tear started trickling down Sehun's beautiful face that's lit by the moonlight.

"Do I die alone?"

Kai let go of Sehun's hand and pulled him into a big tight hug. "No. You have Luhan. He was there the moment he found out. He never left you. And your mother... She really loves you. I saw her outside your room. She was crying, no, begging the doctors to bring you back alive. She said she'll do anything just to get you back. She said you're the only one she has." His arms encircled him, holding him as if he won't ever let go. Never.

"She loves me?" Sehun's voice cracked as tears started rolling down the sides of his face.

"It was hard for her to show you." Kai whispered back.

Sehun let out a little laugh, it was a depressing tone, but he sounded a bit happy.

"She loves me." He couldn't stop his sobs anymore.

Kai couldn't hold it either and he shed tears at the sight of Sehun's face. Helpless yet hopeful. Happy yet sad.

"You will never die. Not that way." Kai wiped away the tears on the other's face. "It will never happen."

"Can we control it? Can we stop it?"

"I would."

"I can go. Just spend my remaining days with me." Sehun begged, he was desperate.

"No." Kai growled. "You're not going nor leaving. When the morning comes, I'm going to set off. It's not right to meddle more into this. We don't know what we're causing to our future. I will bend fate, I will never allow it." He said firmly, promising Sehun that he will live a lot more years after.

"Don't forget me."

Kai wanted to hit anything. He didn't want Sehun to give up immediately. If he could turn back time, he's sure he could change the future too.

"Don't say that. I will leave this morning Sehun. Promise me, that you will stay alive. Never leave the house. Stay in. Don't do anything. I will stay away from you for as much as I can. I will keep you alive. The accident will not happen. Promise me Sehun." He breathed onto his face with determination, causing the younger to admire him more for his taking importance for his life.

"Promise me."

Sehun blinked back the tears and bravely answered. "I promise."

Kai closed the gap between them and sealed the promise with a kiss.

The morning came. Sehun didn't really get any sleep but when he opened his eyes, he was back into his brightly sunshine lit room. His fingers entangled with Kai's, the latter lying beside him. He wasn't able to sleep either, but he was determined about his promise to Sehun.

Sehun didn't know what his purpose in life was. Until he met Kai. And he wasn't going to lose that purpose, not after he has found it.

He saw Kai at the door. He was leaving. They didn't hug nor touch. They only made eye contact that held all their promises.

"Kai." Sehun called before he turned to leave.

"I will find you. After the 8th day, I will surely find you. Like how I found you the last time. Like how you found me." Sehun swore to him. He won't ever let go.

Kai nodded. "We'll meet again."

Sehun smiled with tears in his eyes. He watched Kai walked away from his doorstep. One step. Two steps. Three. Four. ...Eight.

"Kai." He called again. The latter turned around.

"I love you." Sehun uttered the response to Kai's one during the last night.

Kai nodded once more. This time with a tender smile and the promise of coming back in his eyes.

EPILOGUE

Sehun woke up, his body cold with sweat. He just had a nightmare. He dreamt of the car accident. He bumped into a car in a lampless street, they both flew from the impact of the crash. Sehun hit his head and he was a few meters away from his messed up car. He tried to stay conscious and opened his eyes. His vision was blurry. But all he saw was that a good distance away, there was a man in the other side of the street. A fairly huge gap between where he was and his car was. He was bathing in blood. Sehun muttered his name. Kai.
And he woke up. He clutched his chest from the pain it caused him. It felt so real, he had a hard time convincing himself it was a dream.

It was the first day Kai had been gone. He found out that day that Kai had left all the photos he took of him. There were probably hundreds of them. It was all of Sehun. While he was sleeping, laughing, getting angry, eating, even yawning. He doesn't know how Kai took all of them without him knowing. He let out a laugh.

"Why was he taking these shots of me anyway?" He muttered to himself as he reminisced his time with Kai. He believed in him. He believes that they will meet again.

That's when he realized he never saw a picture of Kai in any of the photos.

"Did you delete everything you had with me?" He talked to the photo in his hand. "Stupid Kai." He murmured.

He stared at the same photo. And he suddenly remembered that it was his photo taken with him. He can clearly remember that. Sehun stared at it more. Why did it show just him? Why was Kai not in the picture? He was dead sure he was with him that time.

He scanned the rest of the pics. It confirmed his suspicions. Kai was never in any of their pictures. He was not in one of them. As if he wasn't really there. As if he was just... a ghost.

The next day didn't become easy for Sehun. He dreamt of the same dream. Him flying from his car, dropping limply on the sidewalk. And there was a flash of the other man on the street. He looked worse. And the image made his stomach flip. He was covered in blood. And he had a glimpse of his face. He wasn't breathing. His name slipped in Sehun's mouth. Kai.
Sehun woke with a start. A teardrop rolled on his cheek. What was the truth? What really happened? Was Kai real?

The third day was the same. The picture of the accident getting clearer and clearer. He didn't know what it meant. But it means something.

That same day, he found his drawing of Kai. He wasn't sure how it ended up back in his drawer. He had missed his face. He never got the chance to show him his piece. He sighed. And a note fell when he picked the sketch up. He took the note, it was the same he had stuck on it before. He read it again.

I miss your face. I miss you. Come back to me, Kai.

But it wasn't what made him gasp. It was the small writing underneath his that says: I'm coming back, that's a promise.
There was no doubt it was Kai's. He had seen the drawing after all. But... was he really coming back?

The fourth, fifth, sixth day came. It only made him worry more as his dream slowly fell into the right place. Sehun was hurt. But it was of no comparison with Kai's state. He was dying. If he wasn't still dead.

The seventh day, Sehun has decided to look for an answer. He looked for a seer. The famous one in the city. He didn't believe in prophecies and seeing the future. But his beliefs had no special basis. Not when he had experienced the twisting of fate with Kai.

After an hour, he stepped out of the fortune-teller's house. Her voice ringing in his head.

"It was his soul that traveled back. He was in the verge of dying but he didn't know. Your state was the same, but he overlooked the picture. That's why he missed himself."

"Then why can I feel him?"

"There are a lot of unknown strong forces in this universe. There must have been a strong force that made him feel human. A force that also made him cross his world into yours. Something stronger than just the intelect and will can manipulate. Something that's uncontrollable. Something that you probably know. The exact same force that made you seek for the truth."

Sehun left the room with his mind wandering, full of questions that he thinks he knows the answers to.

"Something that's beyond the control of the mind?" He repeated to himself. Could it possibly be...

"Love." Sehun stopped in his tracks. The only thing that he can't explain is the explanation to it all. Kai was brought to him by love. And he was brought to him by the same love.
So ambiguous, yet just the only reason that fits.
To Kai, it wasn't just love. The force was Sehun himself.
To Sehun, he realized, it wasn't just love. It was Kai himself.

On the eighth day, he stayed in. He slept the day away. If Kai did the same, they were honestly bending fate.
Sehun cracked his knuckles the morning after. He was at a cafe. He was alive. He survived. He finally understood it all.

***

Kai literally crossed two worlds just to save him. And now it's time to return the favor. Sehun sought for Kai, this time, in the right way. In the same world.
He sipped his coffee calmly. The morning was good. And his favorite sunshine colored everything beautifully.

"Am I late?" A voice spoke from behind.

Sehun smiled widely before turning around. Kai was standing just behind, looking down at him with the most beautiful smile he had ever had.

Sehun inhaled sharply.

Kai extended an arm in front of him.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Kai by the way."

Sehun giggled and smacked his arm.

THE END.
