Some of you may recall
this post where I quoted an observation from an Alterneter which seems still particularly pertinent.
Today I was wandering about my favorite corners of the web and found several links I'd like to share, also related:
Subprime CountryNot so much for the main part of the article, but for this bit at the very end:
"Beyond all mathematical reasoning we simply have not reached the point of maximum pessimism in anything. The magnitude of all the varied issues (credit, weak dollar, energy crisis, food crisis, budget crisis (state/federal) and their convergence is misunderstood at a conscious level.
I don't perceive doom because doom is relative. There will be those that prosper in all circumstances even if it is not readily apparent.
I believe the trick is to be confidently optimistic based on trust in ones efficaciousness in any environment. Perhaps it is a lack of trust in ones' abilities that leads to fear and despair."
And then
Politics is Food is Politics, which led me to look up permaculture, where I came across
this interview with the instigator of permaculture.
Apparently creating food forests is possible. We know enough now to feed people and cure diseases and spread information about family planning. I think we have a good chance of doing something about it right her where we live, today.
Spring is a great time to get out and plant your gardens, people! Let's rev it up!
Edit: I'd just like to add that I live in one of those aforementioned "people storage" apartment buildings, but am lucky enough to have a little space to grow in with containers and an very cool property manager who encourages gardening. So, be optimistic about asking for permission, even if you think you don't have the space or the right location.
