Disclaimer: I don’t own anything

A/N: Yes, I know, I should be shot for not updating in such a looooong time with many o to show just how long it had been o.o truth be told, I haven’t been writing much lately.  It seems that whatever I start, I couldn’t finish.  Right now my biggest concern is a fest prompt that I claimed without thinking much.  One month in and not much progress on it... I only have two months left and it still has to be beta-read, meaning I technically only have about one and a half month or so left.

Anyway, enough with me giving excuses :P this is a Christmas gift for you all from me.  If you want to return the favour, send me Christmas greeting cards xD my email is ri.yuhan at gmail dot com.  There, that shouldn’t be censored.

Btw, I went to a book store in Jakarta and saw a published anthology of fanfictions, which I assume were written by a group of kpop fans.  If any of you are one of them or know one of them, I have a question.  How ?_?  I’d like to see my book in print too :PP haha *runs and hides*

Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Secret Santa

Kim Jaejoong was a fairly simple man.  He was diligent, always doing his homework and house chores, and never wanted fancy stuffs.  He worked a part-time job to help pay the rent of his flat and not much else, except for the groceries.  His mother told him she’s sorry for not being able to give him more money to spend on things he wanted, but he kept telling her that he didn’t want anything.

Well, what he wanted couldn’t be bought with money, at least.

Go Hayoung, on the other hand, was a very complicated woman.  Whenever she spoke, it was always cryptic.  She didn’t like being straight to the point and liked to answer questions with questions.  She never did any manual labour, not because she couldn’t, but because she didn’t want to.  Her boyfriend was usually the one who did everything for her, from cleaning to cooking to shopping.  However, she didn’t like to waste money on trivialities, so even if her father sent her a lot of money every week for her to spend, she let it accumulate in her bank account for the interest.

It was a wonder how these two seemingly polar opposites could be best friends.

They met during first year of junior high and had been together since then.  When other students would run screaming to the other direction when they saw Hayoung, Jaejoong greeted her nicely.  She had taken him in as her friend much like a mother hen took a duckling as her own.

Jaejoong had apparently made the mistake of telling her about his crush on the school’s popular boy, Jung Yunho.  He had bumped into Yunho in first year of high school and was almost literally charmed off his socks (he was so giddy after that he didn’t see straight and tripped, his shoes and socks nearly taken off).  Hayoung had smiled sweetly at him and patted his head, but then Yonghwa, her boyfriend, said he had set off her “I’m so nice I’m going to pair everyone off” mode.

That was why when Changmin announced that their class would hold a Secret Santa event, as suggested by the evil Snake, Go Hayoung, herself, Jaejoong was about ready to call in sick for the next week.  Maybe make up a lie about some contagious skin disease.

However, just as he was about to make his escape, he was bound by the snake.  Hayoung had seen his attempted exit and loudly called his name, trapping him in.  He resigned himself to his fate and fished for a piece of paper from the hat.  It read Yoochun, and he was actually surprised to know that Hayoung hadn’t tampered with the papers and hadn’t made him Yunho’s secret Santa.

“Have a good week, everyone,” Hayoung greeted all the students who were exiting the classroom.  “And don’t forget that your secret Santa assignment is due this day next week.  Happy holidays!”

Jaejoong asked Junsu what Yoochun might like for Christmas and Junsu had grinned at him, saying Jaejoong was absolutely pants at keeping himself secret, which was replied by a raised eyebrow and “I wasn’t trying to be secret.”, which then caused the other boy to sulk because his detective work didn’t mean anything.

The Secret Santa assignment was due on the last day of school that year.  Jaejoong walked to school wondering if he’d ever get the courage to talk to Yunho.  It had been two long years since he first met that boy and he could only look at him from afar, pining away as he sighed whenever a girl would come up to Yunho and ask him out.

Hayoung had scolded him, telling him that with only half a school year left, he should make his move now, or forever hold his peace.  Jaejoong wondered if she meant Yunho was going to be married to his university life or something.  She never explained to him what she actually did mean.

He walked towards the classroom door and found a note pasted on it, with the word “Jaejoong” written on a neat scrawl.  He could recognize that handwriting anywhere-it was Hayoung’s.  There was a small red plastic bag hanging beside the note and Jaejoong took the note first.

Kim Jaejoong,

You’re not the only not-so-secret Santa, I guess.  Well, here’s your present.  Hope you enjoy.

Yours truly,

The Awesome Hayoung

Curiously, Jaejoong took the plastic bag and spilled its content onto his palm.  It turned out to be a pair of simple, framed glasses.  He frowned, not because he wasn’t grateful, but because he had perfect vision and had no use for glasses.

“Oh, you’ve found my glasses!”

Jaejoong’s heart skipped a beat when he heard the voice and slowly turned around to come face to face with a grinning Yunho.

“Phew, I thought I lost it,” he said, taking the glasses from Jaejoong’s grasp.  “Thanks for finding it for me.”

“Um, wasn’t me who found it,” Jaejoong started.  “A talking snake found it and gave it to me.”

Yunho looked at him curiously.  “A talking snake?” he asked as he put on his glasses.  “Ah, better.”

Jaejoong nodded silently, trying to decide whether he should kill or kiss Hayoung.  It was a very unorthodox present but at least it got him talking to Yunho, and hopefully this wouldn’t be the last time he did so.

Then again, kissing Hayoung would mean Yonghwa would kill him.

“Ee, they’re standing under a mistletoe!” a random female student from his class exclaimed just as he was about to excuse himself and walk inside the classroom.

They both looked up to check and indeed, there was a bright green mistletoe hanging from the doorsill and Jaejoong glared at it as if it was staring down at him mockingly.

It probably was, if Hayoung was the one who set it up.

He was listing all the ways to kill Hayoung and make it seem like an accident when his train of thought was interrupted by a sudden kiss.  He felt his brain short-circuiting as the soft, full lips pressed against his in a not-so-chaste kiss.

He was still too shocked to respond and felt Yunho pull back in disappointment and regret.  “I’m sorry.  I’ve liked you for a while now and your friend said-so I thought-“

It was his turn to cut the taller man off by pulling him back down and kissing him.  As he heard his fellow classmates cheer, he reminded himself to send a box of Godiva chocolates the snake’s way.

End of Story

Originally wanted to make this a 3k+ word fic, but didn’t have time o.o the original ending was way more abrupt than this, with no explanation as to how Yunho felt about the whole situation, so I added that bit in.  Hopefully it’s not that bad... considering it’s a ficlet :P when you have a limited amount of words, everything have to be rushed >.>;;; or I’m just finding excuses *runs*
