*sigh* I'm tired of writing about the clinical trials done on the safety and efficacy of IM Abilify in Agitation in Schizophrenia/Schizoaffective Disorder/Schizophreniform Disorder and in acute mania or mixed eipsode in Bipolar I disorder (as defined by the DSM-IV and PEC scale). And when I finish this paper, I get to start writing my presentation on the treatment of antipsychotic-induced akathisia. (akathisia is when the person just keeps moving, no matter what they're doing -- they will walk in place if they stop to talk to you or get a drink from the drinking fountain.) It's not a fun side effect of antipsychotics (then again, neither is paralysis (a dystonic reaction), psuedoparkinsonism (tremors & rigidity), or tardive dyskinesia (weird face, jaw, tongue, and limb movements)).
So far this week I've put in 37 hours (and i have at least 9 to go tomorrow). But tomorrow i get to sit in on 2 ECT treatments (HOT MED STUDENT ALERT!!!) and the pyschopharmacology meeting, and I get to learn all about tegretol in the treatment of bipolar disorder.

I am currently an expert on the antipsychotics (neuroleptics or "thought-stabilizers"), & lithium & depakote ("mood-stabilizers"). I love it. I've been making recommendations like mad recently, and both doctors are actively seeking me out for help with drug therapy. So it's kinda worth it that I'm busting my ass for these people for free. And it's really rewarding to see the patients improve from treatments.
