Warning, this is long and somewhat not detailed and definitely mispelled and misgrammared :P
For the last year or so, I have been getting all sorts of new things crammed in my head about alternative medicine and alternative living. Crammed in a good way that is :)
Some of the things that really caught with me, and that I think alot of other people should know (that means you non-friended viewer) that there is alot of interesting things to think about.
Here are some of the questions I asked to myself this year:
How good are all these chemicals put in food?
How important is Sodium to our body?
How about Sugar?
Fat?
What about diet elements, like nutra sweet and aspertame?
What affect do these things have on our evolved systems?
Our hormone balances?
Nutrient absorption?
Nutrient processing?
And so on...
I have found through the year that alot of these things reveal some startling problem for our generation, and the ones before us. If you look at say, my father; he has a hard rock beer gut from all the high fructose corn syrups, aspertames, fats that are complex, and the ever present sodium. These chemicals or ingredients are added to pump food with flavor and preservatives to reduce production costs. Make the food last longer on the shelf. Business sense, this is sound work. Human sense, this is not sound work. These chemicals have been found to lead to very many health problems that plague us today. Obesity, heart disease, cancer...
Fortunately, alot of our children and our childrens children are evolving to handle these chemicals and sweeteners without the adverse affects that they affect on us. I see adults who were born after my generation who consume a wide variety of different foods; healthy and trashy alike: with no problems. Now I don't know if they will die before me due to organ failure... I am just stating how they are now compared to someone of my generation or ealier who has a similar diet.
The same is said about water. We load it with chemicals to keep it clean. How clean is clean? The chlorine is to make sure no bacteria survives. Trust me, bacteria WILL survive. Not the kind the chlorines meant to kill, but the new mutant kind bred in a cesspool of feces in chlorinated water. And why are we drinking chemically treated water that is strong enough to kill animals? This stuff should be as natural as the bodies we put it in. I don't even... Yeah I do. This stuff probably helps in causing brain disorders. Again, as time goes on, further generations will adapt to the processed stuff.
If there is regulation forcing the use of these chemicals in water, and the people, corporations, and government know for a fact ow it harms people, there should be regulation to force all places to have filtration on taps. And replacement systems to help remove the chemicals so that water is chemically loaded for transportation. From the moment it leaves your tap to your glass, then to your mouth: it should be as natural is the spring it was drawn from. Or as natural as our bodies have been evolved to handle.
Then we have foods. Wow. I am reading the book Animal, Mineral, Miracle. It is about living off local grown foods. This sounds odd to most people, but looking into it, there is a million good reasons to do so. The biggest everyone should take not of: cost reduction. If you bought locally, there would eventually or quickly be less dependancy to have foods delivered. That would save millions of gallons of fuel per week. Which would cost our country less. Which would trickle down on the prices of the products we consume. So on and so forth.
Also there is alot of chemical treatment to the foods we cart around so they stay somewhat fresh. These chemicals are just like the others: unnecissary and harmful to our bodies. So again, buying local helps insure that you are getting fresher food that is better for you.
This doesnt even tap the aspect of additives to the processed foods. Why all the salt? Why all the fat? Why all the sugar? What the fuck?
Heart disease is a BIG issue in America and here we are loading more sodium into food than you could believe. And if it isn't sodium, its fat. And if it isnt sodium or fat, its sugar. And if it isnt either of those, it is other carbs... And if it isnt any of those, then it is gross.
I have found hardley any tastey processed foods that meet those conditionals above. They are all too high in one bad thing or another. Or worse yet, loaded with things like aspartame. Poisons that are doing more damage than the health side effects.
So one of the few big topics around the house is mensturation. I wont go into my usual gory detail. I will say that we have found that tampons, pads, birth control pills, and hospital birthing should be outlawed. Or you as a consumer should stop using them.
For mensturation... Stop using tampons and processed pads, and switch to menstural cups and cloth pads. Why? The chemicals in the tampons and pads disrupt the natural defense secretions from the body and infect and physically damage it. Also you can have toxic shock. But that is a fairly rare issue. Also getting a cup and reusable/washable cloth pads will save you thousands before you hit menopause. Imagine: a cup that costs 40 bucks (thats some of the priciest ones), and 40 more in cloth pads (thats enough for one almost every day during the month if you go to the right places), and you will have over a decade worth of menstrual protection that doesn't harm your body. As a woman, imagine how much you would spend in tampons and pads. I can imagine it is alot more than 80-100 bucks. Especially if it was over 10 years.
Birth control. This is somewhat a no brainer. More hormones to fake periods. Yeah thats going to do you good. If you were to do Fertility awareness, you would learn soo much about how your body works and how to predict when you can become pregnant. Saving you more stress than you could imagine. Also BC doesnt keep you from getting pregnant as much as it regulates your period. Or fakes it. Or makes it happen before your body would normally do it. These hormones are devestating to not only your body, but they also are devestating to your mind as well.
Also this doesn't take into consideration how it could affect non released eggs. Knowing the exact times you could get pregnant: wouldnt that be empowering? Without doping up, knowing when to use protection or abstain? Knowing when you can "free-ball it"? Look out there to the millions doing fertility awareness: youd be pleasently surprised. I suggest the book: taking charge of your fertility.
And hospital birthing... This is another serious evolutionary no brainer. Our bodies have evolved to handle giving birth without chemical intervention. When you go to the hospital for labor, they dope you up on chemicals to induce a faster labor. What they dont tell you is these chemicals also make labor more painful. They also in most cases make labor difficult, leading to a c-section.
Worse yet: hormones play a VERY BIG ROLE in forming everything the child comes into this world with. All the boosted hormones ruin the natural releases and destroys a bond between child and parent most of you dont even know exists: you were hospital born or had your children that way.
Any and all parents reading this, or soon or want to be parents should look really good at natural birthed children. you will see it in their eyes. The longing love look they have with their parents. The returned look of pure love. This is from natural chemical releasing in the natural birthing process. The artifical chemicals used in hospital labor destroy that.
A perfect line from The business of making babies: Why is having a baby treated like an emergency?
Umbilicle cord cutting. chemically induced labor, taking the child away instead of letting the bonds cement into their being... Very spiritual sounding to some: the very essence of goodness and love in my mind.
Well, that is enough for now. If you have any questions: ask. Or search the net. Natural learning will do the rest :)
