waltz with bashir (vals im bashir)
2008

- the story/documentary is about ari folman having nightmares on the lebanon war. he then interviews his other soldier-friends regarding the war, the massacres and the brutality of 1982. there's no really plot PLOT; the flashbacks serve as narration.

all i can say is that the animation is incredible!!! it's like watching a comic book (although not as clear-cut as 300) but it's still awesome!! grabe ung ending, talagang tumatak! what a tragedy.

the class (entre les mus)
2008

- french teacher in a middle school class composed of different races. syempre away-away mga bata. the story could've been interesting, but i slept during the first hour of the film :D

osama
2003

- another heavy film about a young Afghan girl who discreetly clothes and acts as a boy to work. this is during the taliban regime and women are not allowed to practice their profession. it was an ok film. could've been better. the girl reminded me of carlo aquino. hehehe.

the chorus (les choristes)
2004

- one of my favorite teacher-student movies! clement mathieu is given the impossible task - teach and discipline difficult children. but he is able to do it through music. at naka buo pa sya ng choir!  it's like sister act but with less hollywood humor and more passion. i love the soundtrack. napabili nga ako eh :)

this is england
2006

-  this is all about english nationalism gone wrong. i initially thought that this would be superficial so i was surprised to see some depth in this movie. the best part of the movie is the ending!!

downfall (der untergang)
2004

- i took interest in this film upon seeing the numerous hitler parodies in youtube. hehehe. my favorites are 1) hitler is banned from xbox live  and 2) hitler finds out that dlsu green archers are out from the final four .

anyway, i have watched holocaust movies (the pianist, life is beautiful, schindler's list, etc) over and over again but downfall takes on a different perspective. the film shows what happened in berlin in 1945: the invasion of russians and the ultimate demise of the führer and the nazis.

bruno ganz, who plays adolf hitler is excellent in this movie!! i can feel hitler's viciousness, pride and anguish. grabe ang galing nya. and ung mga pinapaexecute nya na german officials and civilians (CIVILIANS! wtf) kasi he thought that they were cowards?? kakailabot. tsaka ung mga suicides! my gulay :( nobody really wins in a war.

if i were to rank my favorite holocaust movies: 1) the pianist 2) downfall tie with life is beautiful 3) schindler's list 4) the boy in striped pyjamas.

departures (okuribito)
2008

- everyone was rooting for waltz with bashir to win the best foreign film in the 2009 academy awards di ko alam kung bakit pero mas gusto ko to. the story is about daigo, a talented cellist who loses his job. leaves tokyo with his wife and inadvertently becomes an embalmer. his wife doesn't like it but since the job pays well, daigo doesn't quit his "profession."

ang daming nakakatawang scenes. marami rin nakakadiri and syempre ung nakakaiyak. but i love the movie. mejo matagal nga lang.

xs: favorite scene ko ung kumakain sila ng fried chicken!!! grabe nagcrave tuloy ako habang nanonood. i asked my teammates the next day kung pwede sa max's kami kumain hahaahha.

movies!!!
