Fond Memories of Rockhampton - Part 4

Not all of my memories in Rockhampton, Queensland was bad. There were a few moments of saving grace :)

Horse Ride @ Heritage Centre
Well, for the 1st time in my life, I rode a horse!! haha and an old one too, 23 years old to be exact. I felt so poor thing for the darling horse as he was making his rounds for the visitors in the open field, under the hot sun and for being so old. When I was riding him, I made an extra effort to sayang him more by gently stroking his mane. He was a nice chocolate-colored brown horse, rather well-mannered.

Another thing that made me happy while riding was my conversation with the Australian gal who was guiding the reins of the horse. Haha she didnt believe that I was 26 years old when I replied her question on my age. She thought that I was 18 years old. *WIDE GRIN* I love it whenever people guessed my age to be lesser than what I am. Call me vain, who cares *blab*

Strolling in the Neighbourhood
Even though I had little time, but I grabbed every single opportunity to experience the life of a small town like Rockhampton and what it has to offer. Like going to their warehouse-styled supermarket, browsing through the rows of merchandise, and queuing at the cashier like the rest of the locals. Watching cute little ones running after their grandparents. Watching young 'uns hanging out as couples at the shopping fair (akin to our shopping malls). Eating breakfast at the nearby Macs, watching the little tots playing at the playground. Walking down the streets, seeing toys scattered on the front yard, showing signs that someone's playtime was over. Embracing the sun and cool wind that beats against my sun kissed face as I walk through the local park, which sad to say, was deserted and grumpy, except for a water fountain that sits in the middle.

Interesting Sights
My 1st experience of a Drive-Thru alcohol store that sells everything freaking believable liqeur or beer that you may want, something that you will most likely not find ever in Singapore.

Postscript
1. This trip also marked my 1st for staying in a motel.

2. Sgp has much to offer in terms of its range of lifestyle and entertainment products and services. Believe it or not, I do think that a fair number of Singaporeans are well-travelled to many countries, both as tourists and for business, bringing back with their overseas experiences and products and services which we could previously only dream of. Plus, I dare say that Singaporeans are more connected to the Internet and we are more informed via this medium to know about many things in the world even when we havent set foot in those places. I didnt see the hype over why Singaporeans (read: NS men) have to go on a shopping binge or frenzy while in Australia, citing reasons that they are buying gifts from Australia. Hmm did it occur to them that the so-called gifts from Australia can actually be bought at your neighhourhood friendly supermarket in Singapore. Especially chocolates. All thanks to the Sgp-Aust FTA. Dont these folks read the newspaper or really open their eyes when they go grocey shopping with their families??

3. The only reason why I would still clamour for certain travelling locations would be for their "freshness". Just a simple example, I believe the feeling and taste of getting really fresh seafood @ Sydney Fish Market or the town fish market in Hokkaido (and eating fresh sashimi and drinking sake during winter) is just not the same as eating seafood at East Coast Park or Pasir Ris.

rockhampton, wallaby
