If you attack it with some kind of water attack, it will move but most likely chase after you for a while. It's the only way to get it to move without having gotten something from Goldenrod itself.

[Speaking from experience? Yes. He is. Thing chased him for hours in the heat.]

The train doesn't leave for another few days. You can afford to make camp for the night and try to get past it in the morning. You won't do yourself any good if you pass out in the middle of the route due to lack of sleep.

[Still watching, then he turns to something off screen and snaps his fingers. Barely a second later, there's a very loud bark from his Growlithe, really close to the Gear speaker. Hopefully that wakes her, because there's not much else he can do.]
