Plumber to Obama: “Your new tax plan is going to tax me more. Isn't it?"
Obama: "It's not that I want to punish your success, I just want to make sure that everybody that is behind you, that they have a chance for success too. I think that when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody."
Allow me to translate:
Plumber: "Your new tax plan is going to tax me more. Isn't it?"
Obama: "We're just going to take your money and... give it to everyone else. Because they deserve it more than you do."
Being rich isn't possessing the goods, it's controlling the goods. These bad tax ideas are going to take power over resources from the people and give it to the government, making the people poor and the bureaucrats rich. And yes, they're just politicians drawing a paycheck. But by taking this kind of control over millions of dollars of income - the ability to decide who has the rights to the money that people like this plumber earn - they become the wealthy.
The government should not force people to give to charity. That's legislation of morality, which is not the government's place. You want to learn the government's place? Read the constitution. There's nothing in there about the "right" to healthcare or the "right" to welfare. Why don't we have prohibition anymore? Because you can't legislate morality and expect it to stand up for very long. I've heard the same people who get behind welfare "because it's right" get up in arms against banning gay marriage because the government shouldn't enforce morality. Leave charity where it belongs, in the private sector. If I'm going to give, I want it to be out of the "goodness of my heart" (whatever that means anymore), not because I'll go to jail if I don't.
