So, two hurricanes in one month. Frances and Jeanne both smacked the Treasure Coast of Florida. The Treasure Coast consists of Indian River County, St. Lucie County, and Martin County.
I live in Palm Beach County which is directly south of the Treasure Coast.
Hurricane Jeanne made landfall in Sewall's Point, Stuart which is a little north of Jupiter. Gusts over 150 mph wracked the coast.
I was outside.
On Saturday around 4 pm is when the winds started kicking up. Sustained at about 20 mph, gusts up to 45.
7 pm - Sustained 40 gusts to 60. This is when the transformer in our backyard exploded and caused our power to go out.
7-10 pm - Tropical storm force winds which is 39-74 mph. This is about how bad the winds got during Frances three weeks ago.
10:30-3 am - Hurricane force winds. Sustained 75 mph, gusts of 115-120 mph. At about 1 am I was outside on the porch and saw a branch the size of a tree fly over another tree and hit the neighbors fence and screen. I yelled "Whoa" like a hillbilly.
3:30 am - Went to bed
9 am - Woke up to survey damage. I was suprised at how little damage there was around my house. Besides the huge branch on my neighbors fence, there were only a couple other branches that I had to clean up. No big deal.
The rest of the day, I worked on the yard, then went out to eat. Came home went to bed.
Today, I went to my mom's work for about 5 hours and played video games. They had A/C and hot food. Came home at about 5 and the power was on so I was a happy guy.
The damage to the northern counties was far worse than where I am. The barrier islands are still closed I believe and there's mandatory curfews.
Early estimates of complete power restoration are about 3 weeks.
I'll post pictures of Frances as soon as I get the film developed. Peace.
