I HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO AT WORK!!
Last night, Sherm and I checked out Ringu, the Japanese original of The Ring. While being far less scary, i.e. not remotely scary, it did fill in the gaping plot holes that The Ring had. Pretty much, when they turned it American, they made it scarier but edited out much of the story.
For example: Samara (Sadako in Ringu), actually isn't human. Can kill people with a single wish. That's why the video works, it's her curse.
To combat the curse you have to make a copy and SHOW IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. This isn't in The Ring, but it makes more sense. You have to show it to someone, then they have to show it and so on and so forth, so it spreads and spreads.
Also, the souls of those killed by Samara/Sadako become part of the curse and hang around, getting others to watch the movie.
So yea...that was Ringu. Not scary, but worth the watch, I guess. Would be cool to watch Ringu and Ring back to back....
