I voted early today, before work, at about 7:15 a.m. Walked up the five or so blocks to St. Henry's and there were only about 10 people in line in front of me, including some with children and (small) dogs. An older person needed a chair and it was promptly procured. I wonder if next year we will still be voting at St. Henry's since they are closing that parish.

Our familiar election ladies were there. The one who calls out the names to the recorder has a sweet happy voice, and I always like to hear her spell out the letters of my name with that New Orleans two-syllable R: T-E-ARRA-S. She always says the names like she's really happy and excited you are there, too.

I had a book, a snack, and water, just in case, but it went fast. So I was in there about 20-25 minutes total and then went up around the corner to Magazine to catch the bus and got to work early.

I ate a big lunch today as I correctly predicted that I might be too nervous to really eat tonight. I'm not going out anywhere to watch the results; I'm staying right here in my comfy after-work getup and nibbling and reading and watching TV and if things get too bad I have half a valium stashed around here somewhere.

My SIL is running for mayor of her small Dallas bedroom community, so I'm hoping we get good news there as well. I can't honestly say I'm as worked up about it as the prez election! But I'm hoping she does well.

So, here we go.
