Something like that happened to me once, when I was visiting relatives, except that the welts were on my feet and legs. I'm pretty sure it was an allergic reaction to whatever they used to clean their carpets, but the welts kept coming and going until I left, no matter what I wore. Is it possible that your hands have been coming into contact with some kind of allergen?

We thought of that. I've just started my deli job so we wondered if it might be the gloves--nothing we use to clean is harder than detergent or sanitizer. Still, that doesn't account for my arms.

Are the gloves latex? *FIND OUT* Latex allergies can go from annoying to *serious* in a heart-beat!

You might want to get and use your own personal gloves. If those gloves have been used by somebody else -- you could be reacting to *their* hand cream etc.

If you're touching your arms with your gloved hands, that could very well account for the arm welts.

Ooh, are the gloves latex? If so, do whatever you can to NOT wear them any more - latex allergies can strike hard and fast once you've become sensitized to the allergen.

I've worn these sorts of gloves by the ton during medical/biology stuff, they're this kind of thing. And the welts go all the way up to my upper arm, which is consistently under two layers of shirt.

Allergic reactions will spread. A reaction on your hands will spread up your arms if it keeps being irritated.

[Allergies are weird. My mother and I both get allergic reactions to chocolate ... but only on our elbows. Weird]

It doesn't matter where the allergen is touching - the reaction can happen anywhere. Like with me - if I walk through a hayfield in bare legs, I won't get welts on my legs, I get hives on the inside of my elbows.

Well, there's also the main point that I had them before I even started working at Big Blue Grocery.

Also I checked today--the gloves are vinyl.

There could be some kind of residue on the gloves that's getting on your arms, maybe. Some disposable gloves come with a powdery coating on the inside that's supposed to make them slide on and off easily - if your gloves have that, it could be traveling up your arms.

Powder in the gloves. *nods*
