It's time for the kind of babble which I think only 1-2 people in my Friends List will ever understand.
....spent my weekend playing games. At long last I got to actually spend a whole day doing nothing but playing games. That's now done and I'm happy, so it's now time to go back to do assignments. Reluctantly.
Among the ones I played were
Hoshi no Oujo ~Hikari no Tsubasa~ and La Corda d'oro (Kiniro no Corda).
HnO was good... at least, this time around. When I played the first HnO, I went away feeling cheated and somewhat wanted to kick the scenario writer in the shin. Playing a game where there are 15+ endings but where only 1 of them is happy... was rather disappointing. Felt like my effort of continuous clicking wasn't rewarded or something.
Hikari no Tsubasa was good though, and the art has improved a lot. ...I just rather dislike how they still implement that "If you want to see this character's ending, you have to see *all* the other characters' ending." It takes 1-2 hours for each character... Couldn't really be bothered; I just uninstalled. A little complaint would be the seiyuu; I think some of the characters' voice don't match the design... and if I learn anything, choosing a character based on its design is probably not a good idea. The one I picked, as usual, turned out to be the most rotten of all. Adorably and deliciously good at it though, so I guess I have no complaint.
La Corda is *excellent*. It offers lots of replay value... enough to make me not want to uninstal it. The best thing about it: it actually makes me like classical music. .....that's to be expected, I guess..... playing a game set in a musical school where you play a student competing against each other to win a competition.... you get to hear classical music all the time; during practice, during rehearsal, during performance, for background music.....
It made me appreciate classical music more (something I tried but failed during high school). And made me realise some interesting details... I never knew you can play the same piece using violin and have different versions. Like... there's this one song which I don't know the English name for (the only words I could figure out was '____ na Waltz'). In the game there are 3 versions of it you can choose to play using the violin, and I never knew they could sound... like, different from each other. And since each character plays a specific musical instrument, it's pretty interesting to see the same piece played using different instrument (violin, piano, cello, trumpet, flute, clarinet). It's a very enjoyable game... I lost several nights' worth of sleep trying to figure out just what the heck to do to get a good ending. Haven't yet figured it out... will try again after assignments' done.
I'm pretty sure the game puts in lots of music history as well; I just can't read enough kanji to understand it yet.
Koei really needs to bring more of their titles across to PC. *wishes for the Harutoki series to be ported to PC*.... not gonna happen, me thinks.... they're quite a bastard about this....
And this song is heavenly.
