Communication between sentient ships was efficient. But it meant no one had been notified when Spock and M'Benga were beamed back - their arrival caused a certain small stir but sick bay was humming along quietly enough

Jim knew, immediately, that Spock was back. There was the hum of the transporter--unexpected, here, naturally--but there was also something in his blood that called to Spock as Jim's sense of him suddenly coalesced much closer. And the smile on his face left no doubt about the pleasure Jim felt at having him back. Or the gratitude washing over him that Spock had been returned at all.
He turned to find him, drinking in the sight. Spock looked worn, but whole, and without another thought Jim approached, no longer feeling it necessary to curb the pleasure he felt whenever they were reunited, now that he knew what it was.

Jim wanted more than that, of course. Wanted to gather Spock close, feel him really, physically there in a way he hadn't experience on prior separations. He settled for the Vulcan kiss, and an all-too-human smile.
"Spock." He was intensely curious about what had happened, but he knew Spock would tell him everything. Knew that his first question had been answered already by Spock's presence. Still...
"Let Bones check you out," he said. "And then he can discharge us both."
It was easy to agree. He wanted to tell them, share his experience, explain the beauty of the Narada's structures and systems, her consciousness. But if Jim needed the reassurance that Spock was unharmed.... He looked around. He did not see his second counterpart. Were they then the only ones not injured on this mission?
"That is acceptable. But tell me what has transpired. How is everyone?"
